He will more than likely get a Breese type contract. Big money up front (37 mil) that is strecthed throught out the contract (6 years) and a small yearly number (3 mil), with big money coming the last 2 years (20 mil a year). Which is more than cap freindly IMO and the last 2 years can be refigured or strected out eve more.
I'd love to see it get done soon, get him his $$$, get all the other contract extensions/restructures out of the way and prepare for free agency/draft. This is the one area I wish our FO was better at. There have been countless missed opportunities to improve the team because the FO, for whatever reason, waited to get these things done.
I suppose I can't argue with 2 superbowls in 17 years, but, man, what if it was more?
I don't see how it is possible for that not to happen to some degree. According to what I heard on ESPN, the Ravens are well over the cap next year even before signing Flacco. Restructuring Ngata and Suggs will help a little, but the reality is that some players are going to have to go. It's a by product of success that is inevitable.
Schefter's numbers are way off. I don't see why they wouldn't restructure/extend Suggs/Ngata/Boldin. I love Leach, but with Rice/Pollard showing their ability to work out of a single back set (and even in the same backfield, which was shown at the SB), I think he becomes expendable, or at least replaced by a vet-min. or rookie.
Jacoby said he'd like to retire a Raven and I think he's earned a cap friendly extension.
Boldin/Smith/Jones could be a very good receiving corp for at least another year, maybe two, if Boldin can make the switch to the slot/possession type receiver that Mason was before he retired. Torrey will be the #1 next year with Jones opposite and Boldin in the slot next to Pitta, Joe would have plenty of options.
$18 million per is very reasonable....it has to be back loaded with big $$$ in a signing bonus....look for the larger salary years to come after the current deal for sugga and ngata expire...that'll work given the health issues`of both.....boldin is the tough decision...it will be hard to find a better receiver for less money....
restructuring robs peter to pay paul.....
didn't they get caught video taping pre-game warmups of their opponents? Videogate or something like that??
How many superbowls have they won since they had to stop that practice?
Just asking. If brady hasn't won one since they got caught cheating, doesn't that cast a bit of a tainted shadow on all the Superbowl wins pre-videogate?
I think Drew Brees' deal is the highest... He got 5 years for $100mil with $20mil signing bonus and $20mil in first year. Essentially got $40mil of his $100 in the first year. With that said, Anything under then $20mil a year will be great for the Ravens. I was hoping for something like 7 years $115-$125 total.
Flacco's greatest attribute is he is a winner (not to mention a rifle of an arm). He will not put up large fantasy football stats, nor should he with Rice and Pierce in the backfield. With the new contract he will have to step up his production, but as long as the team is winning he is earning his pay.
Actually, the Ravens are about $13 Million under the cap having picked up another 2 Million upon Ray Lewis' retirement.
That is not enough cap space to do much. That's why the FO has to make decisions, but they have proven to be very good at it.
Last year, they lost Redding, Nakamura, Grubbs and [the other SS] and the fans were wailing all offseason and preseason. Look how it turned out!
I find it hard to believe that the FO will all of the sudden forget how to do their jobs!

And just out of curiosity...for anyone stating that Joe is worth $16M/year, but not $20M/year, and that by being piggy, he's hurting the team's ability to sign other players...JUST HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK $4M is going to help in terms of signing other players, huh?
