Will the Raven's host the opening thursday night game?

They can run more trains. You know, actually adapt to a more crowded event.

But that may be asking for too much...it's a government agency after all.

I tried riding the lightrail in '98 when M&T opened. I've never ridden it since. It was a disaster. I just drive and park now and it's a much more pleasant experience.

Don't count on the Light Rail for this experiment. It can't even handle Opening Day.

Every time a friend tells me they're taking light rail to a big event downtown to avoid traffic, they wind up complaining about how horrible the trip was and how it took hours to get back home... when it usually takes much less. Don't quite see the point. But I loathe public transportation anyway, so I'm a little biased.

Parked for free over by Riverside Park, walked 20 minutes each way, and got back out on I-95 with very little delay afterwards...

Delays plagued the afternoon rush hour and stymied the light rail too, as demand overwhelmed the system and trains stopped altogether several times when fans broke through barricades and spilled onto the tracks.

The hundreds of thousands of fans converging on downtown resulted in the Maryland Transit Administration experiencing "massive delays" on bus and light rail systems overwhelmed by demand and people crossing onto tracks.

"We put every available resource we had out on the system today, and the crowds were simply larger than the system could accommodate in the short time frame in which people were attempting to ride," said Terry Owens, an MTA spokesman.

Light rail should be a great experience, but the MTA does a poor job of managing the system.

The MTA knows the Ravens and Orioles schedule 6 months in advance. Yet can not figure out how to make the system operate smoothing.

On Ravens games, the light rail passes stop after stop, because the trains are full. How about having every other train leaving Cromwell station EMPTY and accommodating the various stops along the way.

On Ravens game days, there should be one SUPERVISOR at every major light rail station.

When the Ravens game is over, there should be a large number of EMPTY rail cars backed up and waiting from M & T and all along Howard Street.

C'mon jessup270. This all makes a lot of sense and sounds well thought out. You don't actually think MTA is going to follow this do you?
