And gay marriage was COMPLETELY different (a whole new ballgame as you say) from traditional marriage because it substituted for a man and a woman, two of the same sex.

The legal complications attending polygamy, though horrendous, can always be worked out thru legislation and contractual agreements.

And good luck with that. You're right, gay marriage was "a whole new ballgame" at first, but it got accepted. Do you think this will get accepted? Right now I don't think much of the population at all would accept polygamy.

You don't mean "convincing case". You mean PR effort. There's no real convincing case for gay marriage, except a rationale that "straight people can do it; so we should be able to as well." Apply that same rationale to polygamy; "if a couple can of consenting adults can do it, why can't a group of consenting adults do it?"

Many posters here accepted the concept of gay marriage with the defective reasoning of, "It doesn't affect me--why should I oppose it?" The same reasoning can apply to polygamy: "Hey, as long as they don't bother me--go for it!"

If I were a polygamist I'd be filing a case in Maryland right now to legalize my marriage(s).

Same-sex couples build a life together and jointly raise child of which both are the legal parent. Why shouldn't they be able to marry?
