You don't mean "convincing case". You mean PR effort. There's no real convincing case for gay marriage, except a rationale that "straight people can do it; so we should be able to as well." Apply that same rationale to polygamy; "if a couple can of consenting adults can do it, why can't a group of consenting adults do it?"
Many posters here accepted the concept of gay marriage with the defective reasoning of, "It doesn't affect me--why should I oppose it?" The same reasoning can apply to polygamy: "Hey, as long as they don't bother me--go for it!"
If I were a polygamist I'd be filing a case in Maryland right now to legalize my marriage(s).
