First he extolls that fact that Fletcher's numbers are almost the same as Ray's, even having played two less seasons. Then he proceeds to tell us that Ray has missed 44 games in his career, to Fletcher's none. 44 games is 2 1/2 seasons, so Fletcher's numbers actually come from a full half season more than Ray.

I'm not diminishing how good of a player London Fletcher is. Just point out that the writers is an idiot.

London Fletcher is a great LB and could be headed for the Hall. But Ray has a few other things going like two-time DPOY and Super Bowl MVP.

What we do know is that on the field, Fletcher outshines Lewis. On paper, they seem almost identical. Though tackles aren’t exactly a perfect stat, the two of them are nearly equal, even with Lewis having two more seasons under his belt. Lewis has a few more interceptions, they have forced the same number of fumbles. But remember, Lewis is in his 17th season; Fletcher is only in his 15th.

Oh, and how many games has the “warrior” Ray Lewis missed in his career? 44. Lewis has never played more than three full seasons in a row, while Fletcher just finished his fifteenth.

Oops. Although Lewis has two more seasons, Fletcher has played in more games. Not the best writing...

LF is a great LB...there's no debating that. But football stats are not baseball stats, especially on defense.

Some other things to consider:

What impact has Fletcher been on the team compared to Lewis? Were the Redskins consistently one of the best defenses in the league with him being the central figure? Were any of the defenses he played in considered the best of all time? Were his stats inflated because other team members didn't get the job done, ie was he just a lot better than the rest of his teammates?

There are probably more...but that's a start.

Nick Goralka wasn't even born yet, when Ray entered the NFL.

his youth doesn't preclude him from being correct, but you probably need to have seen both players actually play, throughout their careers, in order to make that type of claim.

I like how he uses Ray's Atl. case, his dance, and his interview stylings to bolster his case that LF is the better player. he forgot to mention Ray's multiple baby mommas. that would have nailed down his case for LF's supremacy.

The biggest difference between players like Ray and players like Fletcher are their abilities to call attention to themselves. If it were Fletcher on that 2000 Ravens defense instead of Ray they wouldn't have missed a beat.

That said, the guy didn't make a case for "better" since he didn't make a case for "as good" but they are certainly closer than you would think.

I think one of the major differences is that London Fletcher has seemed to have gotten better with age, but I would never argue that Fletcher had a better career than Lewis. I mean, Fletcher may be better right now, but who cares about right now. One is retired and the other is not.
