"I think the hold-up is money. I was made aware that (Flacco) and his agent were real close (to a deal) with (GM) Ozzie (Newsome) and think that Ozzie has always come through and gotten the job done. We've never lost a great, great franchise player from the beginning. I'm just very comfortable that it will get done. The fact that we're offering more per year than the franchise tag, to me, it can't be too far away if where we stopped (talks) last year, the annual average was higher than the franchise tag."

The one-year tag for quarterbacks in 2012 was $14.6 million. However the exclusive franchise tag, which wouldn't allow Flacco to even talk to other interested teams, could run in the $20 million range in 2013.

"It never got contentious," Bisciotti said of last year's talks, "so I can't say cooler heads will prevail. It will just take time. And we have the franchise tag available, so it's not going to be a March drop or dead (deadline). It's going to be a July drop or dead.

"I trust Ozzie that he and Joe are going to come to an agreement that Joe's happy with and I'm happy with. It would be unfair for me to throw the old 'how much money you get means how much less we can build a team around you.' That's kind of a crock. Because I think the difference between his numbers and Ozzie's numbers are enough for a backup safety."

Lot's of folks are simply assuming the Ravens will automatically get the deal done with Joe. I'm not one of them. That's not to say I believe they WON'T get it done, but I'd say it's 50-50 that they'll end up tagging him with the $20M tag, as opposed to getting a long term deal done in time.

(And even though King didn't mention the Bengals, they have even more cap space than the Browns, Joe > Dalton, and so I'd toss that possibility -- slim as it is -- into the mix as well.)

Give me Jay Glazer any day. When he has something to say, it's almost always right on the mark. He does his homework, and has for a long time. HE was the one who "broke" the Brian Billick/GONE story first. And he's had a number of other stories that were right on the mark as well. He's the man!! King is a joke.
