I'd take the worst professional sports title game of all time if it meant my team got another Lombardi but it is what it is.

Last time I checked, the Lombardi trophies given to winners of unmemorable Super Bowls look the same as the other Lombardi's.
Exactly....their jealousy and inferiority complex are hysterical.

It's great to be on the winners side of the fence.

Ever since the Ravens have come into the NFL the Redskins seem to have gone downhill. Many Baltimore fans love this... I look at the Redskins as the other Md team.lol

I couldn't give two sh*** about how memorable the Super Bowl was for other people (although many analysts and writers, including Peter King if I recall correctly, said it was one of the best Super Bowls ever played).

I care if it was memorable for me, and for the Ravens fans as a whole. And it was.

And they lost to the Redskins
and the Ravens lost to the steelers once and to the bengals once and to the broncos once (but not when it mattered)....and to the texans and to the eagles.

Only one of the aforementioned teams won the Super Bowl.

    My Two Cents:

For what it’s worth, having read many different sides from both the writing and fan communities, I’ve come to two conclusions.

    1. It’s definitely going to change, there’s no way that one of the biggest sports markets in the world is going to stand defiantly amongst the wave of change that Native American referenced mascots have undergone in the last 20 years. The best case scenario for die-hard Redskins fans that believe it shouldn’t change is that they develop some sort of agreement like the Florida State Seminoles have with The Seminole Nation. That’s a bit farfetched however as the tribe that “Redskins” referenced has since died out, and the term itself is about as honorary as “Orientals.” So unless every Native American reaches a deal with Dan Snyder where they can be honored by their terms under a banner reading a racial slur…it’s not going to happen.

    2. Things like this really bring out people’s true colors (no pun intended). It’s baffling how passionately people speak about things they would never say in front of their mothers. Surprisingly, most of the tactful statements and supporters for the change come from the south, a place not usually known for being the most progressive place. A high population of people with at least some fraction of Native American heritage could be the explanation. One thing is for sure, if we were talking about changing the Jacksonville TarBabies, or the Trenton Gumbas there would be no debate. The bottom line in this that makes me stand with Native Americans is that they are the most wronged, most abused, yet incredibly underrepresented. However, the real issue here is where does it all stop? I’m all for the Redskins changing their ways in today’s society where the country is very slowly being taken out of the hands of Good Ol’ Boys that bring their Granddaddy and Pa’s rich White American ethics with them.

It's your opinion, as useless as it is.

Just admit you found the Super Bowl so entertaining you were sad when it was over.

Interestingly, as host Bob Ley wryly noted, ESPN had extreme difficulty finding anyone to come on air in support of the use of the name Redskins.

lol...he spewed the usual whiney reasons why the name should stay
"irregardless" of the feelings of NA's of course.

Once the document has 750 signatures, it'll be delivered to Snyder himself, who then will not change the name of the Washington Redskins, because Snyder does what he wants and because 750 people complaining (if they hit that mark) out of millions of supporters almost definitely isn't going to accomplish anything.

The only thing it can hope to accomplish, though, is to be picked up by some websites that republish the petition, starting some sort of chain reaction that leads to fans boycotting games or maybe rioting and overturning Impalas on Brightseat Road. That probably won't happen.

The only reason the Redskins are still called the Redskins, of course, is because even though the term is a racial slur, almost everyone who would be directly offended by it lives outside the immediate DC area, or is dead. Nobody cares. Worse, people who don't want the name change are claiming some sense of pride in the name itself, as if their own warm bubbly feelings are more important than besmirching an entire people. And that argument, although dumb, is winning.

"In a phone interview on Monday, Norton said, “Nobody would let a comparable name to blacks stand.”
The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) member noted that the Washington Wizards used to be called the Bullets, adding that the team enjoyed goodwill for the name change and that the Redskins would benefit similarly.

Once again, just slap a picture of a potato on the sides of the helmet and the problem is solved. The name can even stay.

but her voice, unlike yours, can resonate.

along with D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) Washington, D.C. theres Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and , Mayor Vincent Gray, Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and so on and so on and so on...

That list just keeps on growing....

You should link to your post of their post of that article. That would be super convincing.

"The name debate has generated off-and-on discussion in the nation's capital over the decades, but there's been a renewed momentum in recent weeks. The Redskins were denounced time and again at a daylong symposium at the Smithsonian last month, and politicians and local columnists have since either expressed reservations about the name or condemned it outright.
''You stack up more and more, greater support,'' Harjo said."
