You're jealous we've got a ring and you can barely remember 1991, if you can remember it at all.

Flacco deserves to be paid, and if RGIII can stay healthy and do what Flacco's done throughout his career, he will too. Thats the way this little thing called the NFL works.

You just don't understand how that works because the Redskins have never had a player who could be considered the best among his position in years.

I remember 1991 just fine. It was the year my team was the best by such a huge margin that they can be considered one of the best single season teams ever, not lucky because this or that went their way.

And Portis was every bit as good or better at his position than Flacco.

If they were soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good how come they could only go 9-7 the next year before 4-12, 3-13, 6-10, 9-7, 8-7-1, 6-10 seasons followed it?

The Ravens have been among the elite franchises in the NFL since 2000. Their record, their playoff appearances, and their SB titles speak for that.

Been a while since the Redskins could say that.

And if Portis was among the best at his position, did he not deserve to be paid for it?

Oops, walked into that one didn't you?

The 1991 Skins WERE very good. Put the time line in perspective though. If you conceived a son during your superbowl celebrations that year you may have attended his college graduation this year.

Next year matters? You just make up stuff and spin away.

Portis was paid appropriately. I don't think Flacco is among the best (top few, not top half) at his position because he had a few good games in a row. Your team is welcome to think so and is welcome to pay him as if he is. You will regret it in my opinion.

I'm just saying...if they were so good, what happened? Why did they suddenly go from one of the best teams for a decade or so, to one of the worst?

The NFL is much different today, and better IMO, than it was back when the Redskins, Giants, Cowboys and Niners won SB's for like 15 years. It's a much more challenging league today demanding on good drafting and cap management. Much, much tougher to remain a good team for a long period of time these days.

Flacco will get paid what he's earned. Nothing more nothing less. And Newsome is no slouch when it comes to dealing with the cap and putting a competitive team on the field. He's been doing it for years in case you haven't noticed.

I was relieved to hear that Ozzie's asst GM has been around for awhile and is happy to sit tight and take over when Ozzie decides to hang 'em up. I forget the guy's name, but they did a piece on him during SB week.

that seems like it will really help with continuity. one thing that doesn't necessarily transfer, from GM to GM, is the ability to eval talent. but I would think that years of working together would be a great way to hone that skill.

You take pride in that, I take pride in Flacco having had one of the best playoff runs in NFL history.

So, with 2 SB rings, we've had ourselves the best defense in NFL history and arguably the best playoff run for a QB in NFL history.

Not too shabby for a team that arrived in 1996.

    * Former Skins beat writer Rick Snider weighed in with an Examiner column: “But if the term isn’t derogatory, then why are some American Indians offended?….It may take another generation, but all things change and the team will one day alter its name.”

    * At the other end of the political spectrum, The Nation’s Dave Zirin reached the same conclusion: “This is going to happen, and even if Dan Snyder doesn’t want it to happen, it’s going to happen.”

The Braves just nixed their "screaming Brave" batting practice hat.

So, in 1991 the Redskins had one of their best seasons. Coincidentally, Baltimore didn't have a team then. So, since Baltimore has been a team the Redskins were thrown into oblivion.

Think about it...1991 was 22 years ago. The Orioles haven't even taken that long to get back to being a contender.

this feels different that all the other years where we heard whispers about people wanting the name changed. I don't remember politicians jumping on board the name change train. and the articles used to be commentaries about individuals or groups that were crying for a change. now the writers are taking sides against the name. it won't happen soon, but the waves of offended people seem to be swelling.

So? It's still part of the latest, recent, incredible wave which includes the Smithsonian meeting and the news anchors and columnists chiming in, wow.

Latest, recent and inconsequential. His comments were before the others so he didn't weigh in so much as he got the ball rolling.

    So?
It doesn't matter who was first as long as that ball is rolling!

you hope it is....but it obviously isn't.

    It'll happen thats a certainty.

I've alway said that yes it would be "later, rather than sooner"...but this latest, unprecedented flurry has me rethinking that.

I just hope racialslurs fans are prepared for the inevitable so when it does happen they can handle the change.
