Default Boldin: I'll retire a Raven.

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/r...,2762363.story

God I love this guy. Says if they cut him, he'll retire. Baltimore is the last place he'll play, and he considers himself a Raven for life. The feeling, at least for me, is mutual.

I really hope they find a way to retain him. He's one of the toughest WRs I've ever seen.

Hopefully Flacco understands how much Boldin helped him and this team to the superbowl and takes less money to have Bolden stay a Raven to keep the train running.

If Q wants to stay I am sure they will work out a deal.....when it comes to who makes who better, each makes the other better....

Right. But why is the emphasis always only on JOE to make the monetary concessions?

Let's just give everyone the vet minimum except for Joe. Sheesh, Boldin's earned more than peanuts for his play.

Has Ngata? Has Suggs? Has Reed the past 2 years? Ngata and Suggs' cap projections for 2013 are a combined $24.5M. And people are complaining about Joe wanting $20M as a true franchise QB? Seriously?!!! (By contrast, with a long term contract, Joe's cap number should be HALF of $24.5M. Think about that for a second.)

No mention of Ngata or Suggs in this quote.

that is a question I cannot answer because it's a position I don't support...call what you see the Mike Mussina effect...he made the mistake of taking a hometown discount and then got crucified for not doing it twice.....

I understand people wanting to keep as much of this team intact..however the salary cap and the NFL as a business are designed to prevent that....as Ozzie said on Wednesday, they will not sacrifice the future by focusing on just a repeat for next year.....

    N/P.

(Regarding Ozzie's statement, that's all well and good. But the horse is already out of the barn, so to speak. Meaning, the damage is already done cap-wise. When I look at Cincy's cap situation -- $55M UNDER the cap -- it really makes me wonder if, from Joe's perspective, it wouldn't just make more sense for him to sign with the Bengals. He'd have A.J. Green to throw the rock to, and he certainly should be familiar with the Ravens D. He could possibly get the Bengals over the hump, and they'd still have a cheap Andy Dalton as a more than serviceable backup. Just sayin...)

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Even if they don't sign him long term, he's going to get franchised, and there's no chance he wants to leave.

How much would you like to bet that Joe doesn't sign with the Bengals. Go ahead - name it.

Uh, because he's the one that's about to sign a massive contract?

Seriously, are you his wife or something?

the Bengals are that far under the cap because the bengals are run poorly...fortunately the NFL is now enforcing a salary floor as well......Joe would go to Cincinnati and realize he'd made a huge mistake....the bengals are always considered on the rise, when in fact they are stuck between mediocre and wanting....

The Bengals were never the same after Palmer got hurt. Until that point, they were a serious threat. It isn't so much a matter that they're run poorly -- it's that the owner is cheap. With a top tier QB, they'd be a serious threat once again. Maybe that would motivate their owner to open up the coffers. Joe is a bona fide franchise QB. And he's not the property of the Baltimore Ravens. The notion that somehow the Ravens can do whatever they want with Joe is erroneous. The likelihood is that Joe will sign with the Ravens at some point. But whether or not it's in his best interest remains to be seen, IMO.

Suggs and Ngata will occupy $24.5M of the cap in 2013. THAT'S a massive amount of money for 2 players who don't contribute NEARLY that amount in terms of services rendered.

you'll have to define that fine line between cheap and poorly run.....the team lacks a decent scouting and talent evaluation departments....Palmer is the poster child for why Joe should avoid Cincinnati....Brown never spent the money to surround Palmer with the talent needed to be a serious SB contender....you think that will change if Joe went there...c'mon man...Brown is who he is....a cheap, I'll be here long after these players are gone type of owner with very little interest in winning.....

a deal with Joe will be done in a few days...he'll get paid, people will be walking back off the ledge and all will be well....

Whoa...Palmer had Chad Johnson, Housh, and Chris Henry. Very few teams could stop that juggernaut. They were more threatening than Manning in his prime. They literally changed the way defenses played, with the move to more nickel and dime packages. It was only when Palmer went down that everything fell apart. But you can't say they didn't surround him with enough talent to go all the way, can you?

IF the deal gets done in a few days, I'll agree with you. But even Bisciotti is talking about there being no rush to meet the March deadline. He's talking about July. So we'll see how that plays out.
