I'm right there with you. The idea that we'd somehow be a safer society if everyone was walking around packing and acting like Steven Seagal is about as absurd as the idea that banning "assault weapons" is going to have a meaningful impact on gun crime in the United States.

I think the CCW stuff is murky but in my mind there's no justification for keeping people from having whatever they believe they need for self defense in their own homes. A criminal intruder may be a generally unlikely occurrence but I prefer having my Sig around just in case. The police can't protect people and legally they have no obligation to do so (see Warren v. District of Columbia).
