    Period.
If anyone is going to make themselves look bad it will be the president, who along with Jack Lew, put together this sequestration. So now Republicans will make Obama look bad if it does go into affect on March 1?

    Default Sequestration

Less than two weeks to go for our pathetic Congress to reach a decision and no one on this Forum seems to care? Wow. You will after March 1st.

I care but it doesn't look like there's an easy way for Congress to cut spending. We're just going to have to deal with the consequences of them doing it the hard way...

Because those of us with a brain already know what's going to happen. Both sides will continue to pump their chests up until the deadline, make a temporary deal, claim victory, and kick the can down the road a little until next year. It's as predictable as the sun rising

Regardless of who wins the November 6 elections, many congressional aides and Capitol Hill observers are predicting that lawmakers will go right up to the deadline - probably around mid-February or early March - before increasing the $16.4 trillion limit on borrowing that is nearly exhausted

It is a scenario almost exactly like the summer of 2011 when investors, credit-rating agencies and capitals around the world watched with alarm as Washington went to the brink before reaching a debt-limit and deficit-reduction deal.

Latest federal news says, according to Obummer, the GOP is unwilling to raise taxes to reduce deficits and warning that the jobs of essential government workers, from teachers to emergency responders, are on the line.

House Republicans however have proposed an alternative to the immediate cuts, targeting some spending and extending some of the reductions over a longer period of time. They also have said they are willing to undertake changes in the tax code and eliminate loopholes and tax subsidies. But they have said they would overhaul the tax system to reduce rates, not to raise revenue.

Bottomline: The president and his democrat cronies won't stop spending and are willing to raise taxes...again...to pay for it. Sound familiar? It should, just ask Martin "Taxaholic" OWE'Malley.

Obama and Lew came up with this **** storm and now it's starting to backfire. Barry was on the TV last night trying to place the blame on the republicans again for crissakes. Man, I thought Slick Willy was a liar but Barry takes the cake. If he was Pinnochio, his nose would be a drawbridge across the Potomac.

Boehner to Obama: You created spending cut crisis, you fix it

"Having first proposed and demanded the sequester, it would make sense that the president lead the effort to replace it. Unfortunately, he has put forth no detailed plan that can pass Congress, and the Senate—controlled by his Democratic allies—hasn't even voted on a solution, let alone passed one."

But President Obama was determined not to face another debt-limit increase before his re-election campaign. Having just blown up one deal, the president scuttled this bipartisan, bicameral agreement. His solution? A sequester.

With the debt limit set to be hit in a matter of hours, Republicans and Democrats in Congress reluctantly accepted the president's demand for the sequester, and a revised version of the Budget Control Act was passed on a bipartisan basis
Doubtful we'll hear that reported on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, etc

... because it is okay if a Democrat does it.

This is your government. There are actually people out there that think it should play a bigger role in our lives which is simply amazing.

McConnell played a role in raising taxes on the rich which just kicked the sequestration can down the road until March 1 when the real Fiscal Cliff of cutting spending kicks in. Democrats got what they wanted, now it's time to cut spending which was part of the deal.

The sequestration was Obama's and Lew's idea. Boehner is sticking with it. Why is Obama now saying it's a bad idea?

"These cuts are not smart. They are not fair. They will hurt our economy. They will add hundreds of thousands of Americans to the unemployment rolls," Obama said. "This is not an abstraction -- people will lose their jobs."

    Why? We're talking $85B a year from a $3.5T budget, about 2.5%.

And is that a real cut from this years spending or is it just a reduction in the baseline increases built into the annual budget. Me thinks the latter.

Cutting $85B a year is really going to damage the country. Stop listening to the hype about how draconian this all is. Obama is simply demagoguing the issue.

Me thinks the stupid party will cave in and come up with some way to kick can.

Well March 1st is next week and if it were me, I'd let the "cuts" hit and then see where we're at!

Obama asked for the cuts - his plan. Now he's crying about them.

Keep licking those boots, Obama sheep.

Indeed, let the "cuts' hit. We'll be essentially where we are now.
