Smile Flight attendant, 75, retires after 54 years

    Congratulations, Carole DiSalvo!

When Carole DiSalvo began working as an American Airlines Inc. stewardess, she thought she might stay a couple of years. Maybe that long. “I was 20 when I went with American,” DiSalvo recalled. “And two years was truly the maximum. You couldn’t be married. Back then, people were getting married a lot younger than they are now. So two years was truly about the maximum that you would expect to fly. Never would you expect to go five years or 10 years.”

More than 54 years later, DiSalvo, 75, has finally grounded herself.
Rule changes preceded her: she got married after the single-only rule changed, she and her husband adopted after that rule was altered. She's seen travel attire change, met Richard Nixon, Neil Diamond, and other celebrities, and looks quite good for her age. Enjoy your retirement!

It's hard to imagine those eligibility requirements nowadays; single and no children.
Dieser Weg wird kein leichter sein; dieser Weg wird steinig und schwer.

My mother had a cousin who was a flight attendant way back when, 50s I think. Anyway she was once on the cover of Life magazine with an article talking about the glamourous life of being a stewardess. Flew for TWA if I recall. Imagine, glamour!!! My how times have changed.
