Default Speed Camera Citation Paid - Notice to stand trial almost 2 1/2 years later

    .

An individual (not me) received a Baltimore City speed camera citation in the summer of 2010.

The $40 fine was paid that fall, in person, at Baltimore City's Department of Finance office next to City Hall and a receipt was issued with the citation number and the $40 amount paid. Fortunately the receipt was saved.

Today, in the mail, that individual received a "Notice To Stand Trial" (trial date in March 2013) for that exact violation that occurred in the summer of 2010.

The individual paid the fine because the inconvenience and the expense of going to court to fight the citation would cost more than the citation. But now, more than 2 and 1/2 years later, that individual is "summoned to be and appear before a judge" for a speed camera citation that was paid over two years ago.

I guess since Baltimore City is on track to go bankrupt, the incompetents are searching for any and all revenue by any means necessary.

How many other people are going to be summoned to appear for a speed camera citation for which they have paid the $40 fine but do not have the proof that they had paid the fine?

Baltimore City has a website for checking "Parking, Red Light and Speed Camera Citations":

    http://cityservices.baltimorecity.go...s/Default.aspx

This citation number entered into that web page shows the "Current Status" as "Closed" because the $40 fine was paid.

How many ways has this Baltimore City speed camera system failed?

I suggested to the individual that they appear in court with the City's receipt for the $40 payment for the speed camera citation and with their cancelled check with the citation number on it.

Then contact the media to see if they have an interest in another story about Baltimore City's speed camera debacle.
