Been watching the 7 on 7 Rugby on NBC Sports this weekend. I could get into watching this rough and tumble sport. The field is bigger than a football field 120x73 compared to 100x51 or something close to that. The ball can not be passed forward (even though half the time the refs don't call it if they do), it always has to be passed backwards. As soon as a runner is tackled he has to give up the ball. A team scores a Try which is worth 5 points and the ball has to be downed on the ground in what would be the end zone. The kick afterwards is worth 2 points and it has to go over the crossbar. But the kick can come from 3 different angles. From either sideline or from the middle. It's according to where the ball is downed in the "end zone". I don't know all the rules but I grabbed the basics of the game by watching it.
The USA team is still a fledgling team and struggles a lot. They could have beat Canada but kicked the ball under the crossbar and not over. They say that it will be a sport in the next upcoming Olympics.
The next weekend of play is in March 22. Hope to remember to watch it again.
