A man serving life in prison without parole was killed Sunday in an apparent homicide, Maryland State Police said, the third such incident since September at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Allegany County.
The suspect is another inmate, who was not identified pending formal charges. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The inmate killed was identified as Ricky Bailey, 51. Bailey was convicted in 1991 of offenses stemming from when he and an accomplice broke into a woman's home and bound her and her 16-year-old daughter with tape for hours while they raped her 20-year-old daughter in another room. Bailey and David Wayne Hall, the accomplice, also forced the woman to rob her employer, a bank. Bailey also had previous convictions for violent offenses.
