Do you get some kind of cheap thrill reading that vulgar stuff, so much so that you wanted to share it with us?

At least he was professional enough to give more than two weeks notice. I hate it when people just up and quit.

    Two weeks and 3 days.

Not much notice for a professional.

It's a power play. Pope B16 wants to install a younger protege who will advance a traditionalistic agenda.

Do you think they might have to hire a temp?

I'm not optimistic either. I hope that they pick someone who actually is more of a representative of the majority of their demographics. I.e. not an elderly Northern European, but someone from either South America or maybe the Philippines.

Maybe they'll consider outsourcing the job to a consulting firm.

You can run but you can't hide.

Alex Gibney’s ‘Mea Maxima Culpa’ has been running on HBO this month. It is very telling in what the pope knew about the thousands of child sex abuse cases, he was in charge of as cardinal.

The question is; will the Cardinals choose someone as conservative as the Pope, or will the pendulum swing the other way.

It probably IS about time for a third world pontif.

What kinds of changes does anyone want to see for the church?

    Mom

Not my church so I don't care too much what they do internally, but I wish they would back off trying to legislate Catholic concepts of things such as marriage for the rest of us.

'Not my church either, though I spent the first 14 years of my life Catholic.

A young pope would be interesting, (perhaps too interesting) signifying a willingness to come into the twenty-first century.

I remain a somewhat disinterested observer.

Papal infallibility does not work like that.

    See below:

    Link

It’s Wikipedia but very well researched and explained, IMHO.

    From the link:

“In July 2005 Pope Benedict XVI stated during an impromptu address to priests in Aosta that: "The Pope is not an oracle; he is infallible in very rare situations, as we know". His predecessor Pope John XXIII once remarked: "I am only infallible if I speak infallibly but I shall never do that, so I am not infallible”...

I think some want it to become non~Catholic by changing its core beliefs and doctrines.

It would be nice if they backed off on prohibiting condoms.

In Africa, there are apparently lots of situations where the husband is HIV-positive but the wife isn't (yet). If they're Catholics, it would be nice if they could use condoms to protect the wife's health.

Better yet if they backed down on the prohibition of birth control. (They already approve of the "rhythm method" when a couple doesn't wish to be fruitful and multiply. Why is "artificial" birth control not allowed?)

What makes you think that the obscenity is coming from the left? Have you ever heard an ignorant, prejudiced, right-wing Christian talk about Catholics? I have; I've even been told by a few less hateful fundamentalists that Catholics aren't Christians.

Well I am not going to get into Humanae Vitae. But if you are looking for those kinds of changes I suspect you will be disappointed regularguy.
