Homicide detectives had been investigating the case since the body of Jennifer Conyers, 32, was found in the basement of a home in the 5700 block of Highgate Dr. at about 2:30 p.m. Friday. Police said Monday that Conyers was found bound by electrical cords and wire, and they determined she had been asaulted on the first floor and dragged to the basement.
Neighbors told police that Conyers' truck was missing, and a lookout was broadcast across the city. Western District officers found Monte Carter, 38, driving the vehicle Saturday morning at Pitcher Street and Fremont Avenue and took him into custody for questioning.
Carter had blood and on his clothes and said he had been driving the car for days with a friend, using Conyers' ATM card to buy cigarettes and other items that they then used to buy heroin and cocaine, according to charging documents.
