Baltimore Ravens
Washington Redskins
Depends on your criteria. And I'm guessing you and Eastside will pick whatever criteria you feel best fits your narrative.
The fact is, the purpose of an NFL franchise is to make money for its owner. Using THAT criteria, the Skins are a top 3 franchise.
That being said, to argue to fans that the Skins are a top 5 franchise would be ridiculous, as is arguing that they are bottom 5.

Frank...if Football Cop were here...you'd get BLACK FOOTBALLS TO THE CHEST for asking such a dumb question!!!

If you're speaking in terms of profit then I 100% agree with you. Both Mike Brown and Snyder are making a kings ransom and giving the fans absolutely nothing in return. Under a normal business model they are a smashing success! Now if you're talking about winning or any on the field accomplishments those two teams have been the bottom feeders of the league for the last two decades or so. There's really no way to dispute that
So are you going to keep moving the goalposts when you're wrong? Currently the Redskins are in the middle of the pack solidly as a total franchise and are near the top if money is the main concern. Taking money out of it, they still aren't even close to the bottom.
Again, it depends on the criteria Hail. If the criteria were number of AFC/NFC championship games since 1991 the Redskins are tied for 2nd worst franchise. If you use the longest period of time between playoff appearances, the Ravens are the best with a 4 year period being the longest period without making the playoffs.
What criteria are you using to suggest they are currently "middle of the pack"?
I'm not going to speak for Hail, but if you look at a variety of basic factors (because no single factor defines a franchise), money, attendance, W-L record, playoff appearances... then you are looking at a middle of the pack franchise. Upper echelon when it comes to money and attendance (top 5, every single year, despite crappy records), bottom echelon in terms of on-the-field performance. And I think the attendance says a lot, considering how much the stadium experience sucks.
Also, ever since Danny put adults in charge they are building a good team with smart free agent signings and good drafting. They have stability in the front office, coaching and in roster management. Despite being totally hosed on the bogus cap penalty, they also manage the cap very well.
It doesn't necessarily follow that it is a good organization because they have a good fan base. Nobody is questioning that the fan base is loyal (at least I haven't seen it questioned). I don't think that is automatically a reflection upon the organization though. It took years for Orioles attendance to drop and certainly they have not been a quality organization for many years. I would go so far as to suggest that an organization that consistently puts out below average product to above average customers is worse than one that doesn't hose the good customers with inferior product. Certainly the product they have been putting out is in the bottom echelon. Getting better to be sure, but the last 20 year track record is BAD.
At the same time, the fans understand that Danny WANTS to put a good product on the field, but he just SUCKS at it, lol. I'd take a meddling manager like Danny who TRIES to make the team better over a disinterested manager like Angelos any day of the week.
But, yes, the Redskins have sucked on the field for years, and their fans still love them. No one is disillusioned enough to claim that they are a better franchise than the Ravens though.
No 1st round pick for 2 more years for the Lewinsky's. And a coach that has won ONE playoff game since his meal-ticket Elway retired. Burns though running backs like Sherman though Atlanta.
One season does not make a future dynasty. Outside of RG3 their best players are over 30.
Six Washington Lewinsky players? Williams, you are joking right? One Pro Bowl does not make career. Orakpo? She was hurt last year. Maybe she'll come back. Shanahan will burn Morris out before his is 30. He burns though RB's like Sherman though Atlanta! Ask T Davis. Alexander will be 30 in May.
Shanahan has ONE playoff win since 2001. ONE, only ONE. Elway made him.
Since you're going to persist in being so moronically wrong, tell us who are "their best players are over 30". There's exactly ONE.
Like I said before, don't hit submit when you don't know $-hit.
Ravens – First NFL team to hire a Black General Manager
Redskins – Last NFL team to integrate
I think the above comparison tells the difference between the two franchises.
Since so many of you want to compare using decades old irrelevance, it only makes sense to remember you were the Cleveland Browns for most of your existence. In that case, the Redskins are the vastly superior franchise.
I'm willing to cut the Skins a break. They've got a franchise QB if healthy. They've got a stud RB and some good WR's. They're in a division with teams that are up and down one year to the next.
They sacrificed some draft picks to get RGIII but I still think they're in much better shape than they have been.
Right now the Redskins are a lot like the Orioles. After one year in which some things went right, they're both looking to build on the positives and erase years and years of losing. Doesn't mean it will happen in either case, but at least the fans have some hope it will.
As O's fans, I think we can at least concede that point.
