Default Teen robbed of LeBron James sneakers

Armed robbery for a pair of sneakers?

Police said the robber, wearing a red jacket and blue jeans, escaped in a red car similar to a coupe.

Well at least we have a good decription of him, be on the lookout.

Police said the attack occurred about 7:50 a.m. in the 400 block of Ridge St. NW, about four blocks from the Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center Metro stop.

Officer Araz Alali, a D.C. police spokesman, said the youth was walking when a man armed with a gun approached him and demanded his shoes. Police wrote in a report that “the crime was motivated by black Lebron James sneakers.” Nothing else was taken.

Signature apparel, including shoes and Helly Hansen jackets, have been popular targets for robberies. In many cases, the holdup men also take money and cell phones.

    No shock here.

How does a "16-year old youth" afford $200 sneakers anyway? None of the kids or their parents I know, or my friends know, can afford them. Guess we just travel in different circles.

How do we know it was the $200 sneakers? I can afford $200 sneakers, and I know plenty of people who can afford them. I don't buy them because I think it's a waste of my money. Everyone else can spend their money however they choose.

Damn... when I was in school, I remember reading this same exact news story almost every month... you just have to replace the words "Lebron James" with either "Air Jordans," "Reebok Pumps" or "Starter Jacket"

My mom wouldn't buy be those though... I was the kid in British Knights.

I always wanted a pair of Reebok Pumps when I was a kid. I had a pair of Jordans...once they were 50% off.

I wanted a pair of JP's but there was no way mom and dad were going to spend $12.00 on a pair of tenners.

Looking through the internet, I've found some variations on that name and song. They were called cat heads in New York and bobos in Philadelphia, but with the same basic song (although the price might be $1.49).
