NRA not opposed to proposed Maryland licensing requirement for gun purchases?!?!

At least that is what Dan Rodricks claims ~

A spokesman for the National Rifle Association in Maryland said Tuesday that his organization would not be opposed to requiring people to get a license before purchasing a handgun — as long as the licensing fees were reasonable.

Great reporting job there by the Baltimore Sun.

Even I can tell what's false and erroneous about that claim. Does anyone else see the blatant mistake that permeates Mr. Rodricks' column?

Even if it was unintentional, that is still no excuse for not checking one's sources of information. There should be a retraction or at least a correction.

There's something else really wrong with that piece. I didn't believe it when I read it so I asked my husband and his brother about it. I can't post what they said, but there now several comments that point out the glaring error that should have been caught before being published.

Meaning that he either did it deliberately or because he did not bother to research his "facts" a tad further.

If it was a mistake, then he should correct it.

Mr. Rodricks will not be able to back up the claims about the relationship between the NRA and the MSRPA. In the end, he will just look like a fool for making the comments.

However, it may not be a bad idea to contact Mr. Daley and ask if he actually made the comments about licensing. It is possible that he may have.

Having already gotten "Permits" from the MD State Police to just purchase my handguns, I was aways amused how the applications always come back stamped "Not Disapproved".

So, the State pretty much begrudgingly "Allows" you to purchase a handgun but Never "Approves" of it.

This is the state we live in.
