They seem to be an easy target for ridicule.
Yeah, I think maybe people become more conservative when it comes to financial matters as they get older, but probably become more liberal on social issues. However, most people vote with their wallet, so I think more people's votes swing towards the conservative side as they get older.
The lines tend to be blurred for most people on economic issues. There's more overlap. One of the frustrating things about our political fights over economics in this country is how both sides are not very far apart but can't seem to reach a compromise.
Social issues is where there's a clearer distinction between the Left and Right
