You are right on. GC has to pound the ball. They will have an elite OL and a power north-south RB. But I would just stacked the line against them, not sure their QB is ready for the big time.
You are also right about CHC. We will see though. They aren't known for getting the big boys upfront. They have skill players for days but means nothing without a line. And the also lost their line coach, so that's not going to help.
CHC needs to worry about the fact that MSJ and McDonogh will be looking to catch up to them next year. I think it's going to be a great conference next year, with Gilman again top dawg. But don't be surprised if MSJ stuns some people. They also need line recruits.
Sources are saying CHC backed out of the Patriot Classic in New Jersey to play Franklin. SPP is playing Gonzaga now.
2013 McDonogh School Football Schedule:
Week Sub-0 (8/24)- Bishop O'Connell (VA)
Week 0- Benedictine (VA)
Week 1- Haverford (PA)
Week 2- Penn Charter (PA)
Week 3- Georgetown Prep
Week 4- Mount Saint Joseph
Week 5- Calvert Hall
Week 6- Saint Frances
Week 7- BYE
Week 8- Loyola-Blakefield
Week 9- Archbishop Spalding
Week 10 (11/9)- Gilman School (98th Annual McDonogh-Gilman Game)
I think this is a great schedule of like-sized schools with similar academics that are all highly competitive on the football field. This is the earliest time I've ever know a McDonogh team to start competition. I've heard that McDonogh has a great recruiting class coming in this fall and I'm excited to see the team this year, I think Dom will have them playing great.
Everyone knows about the dynamic skill position players headed to CHC in August. However, CHC has really focused alot more on getting big boys up front recently. Two of Hamilton's best interior OL & Hamilton's two best DL are headed to CHC next year with a young man from the Elkton area for starters.
Pretty funny... Best and best of best is very subjective on most levels. Especially when talking about 8th graders. I was told by a reliable source who is headed to CHC. Maybe I should have referenced Hamilton's starting interior OL and starting DL instead of best. I have I have no idea where the other G and OT's or other DL are headed or who is going to Gilman or OLGC besides the LB headed GC.
I was simply stating CHC is not content on relying on legacies or multiple sport athletes playing football in the off season of their prime sport to play OL anymore. The young men I referenced are a prime example of this.

I think its a smart schedule. It is the first 11-game regular season schedule in McDonogh football history and I really like the bye week in the middle of MIAA play. Now that there are 7 teams in the A Conference, someone is always going to have to have a bye week or play non-conference every week.
The MIAA A is so highly regarded that if McDonogh goes undefeated non-conference and wins the MIAA A, they'll finish no worse than 4th in the state. The only teams that I think would ever be voted above an MIAA A champion are 1. WCAC Champ without a loss to an MIAA team 2. undefeated 4A state champ 3. undefeated River Hill.
Bishop O'Connell (VA) (5-5 in 2012) is really ramping up their football program. They hired 2nd year HC Del Smith away from Bridgewater College (VA), where he was the LBs coach at a sucessful D-III program. They've been rapidly improving their schedule and are scrimmaging Gilman @ O'Connell 8/10 this year.
Benedictine (VA) (7-4 in 2012) is a highly regarded academic school with a competitive football program, losing in the first round of the VISFA playoffs. McD has played in their Winter basketball tournament the last few years. Football seems to be very important to them as MaxPreps has them with a varsity roster size of 133, with only 251 kids in the school.
Haverford (PA) (7-4 in 2012) is another highly regarded academic school from the Inter-AC league in Philly. McDonogh last played them in a home-and-home in 2009-10, winning both games. They are always a top-3 team in the Inter-AC.
Penn Charter (PA) (6-4 in 2012) is another Inter-AC school. McDonogh has played Matt Ryan's alma-mater 7 times since 2004, losing 4 from 2004-07, winning 2 in 2009-10, and losing in 2012. Penn Charter is a quality opponent that is becoming an out of state rival.
Georgetown Prep (5-5 in 2012) has been a good game for McDonogh. They've played every year since 2004 (McDonogh leads the series 6-3) and they've always been close games, including 3 straight years of 1 point games (2009-11).
Haverford, Penn Charter and Prep are all traditional games. O'Connell is still a WCAC team. Benedictine is a good game as well. There's something to be said about scheduling like-minded schools with similar sized student bodies that will also offer good competition on the football field. There's no need to be playing the Bishop Gormans of the world unless you're shooting for that Mythical National Championship
CHC will have a very good Class coming in this year and the Hamilton kid's they are getting will help. But they aren't program changers like a Ellison Jordan or the best 8th grader in the state that is reportedly coming to Gilman this year. Gilman will have another really good Class but not as good as last year and as good as what most thought they would have. They would have had easily the best Class in school history and tops in the State but many kids weren't accepted into the school and it really hurt their Class. The Class is better than the Class of 2014 and 2015 but not as good as 2016.
I believe Gilman is only getting one lineman from Hamilton(who is their best lineman and little cousin of CHC's own GURU)and the best lineman from Harco. Gilman will be getting the best lineman(who is also considered the best player in the state) but he's not from the Baltimore area. GC is making out like kings. Gilman's admissions requirements has been very beneficial to a lot of schools.

I just glanced over the fact that 92 Card is ALIVE! Welcome back sir, It only took you almost 4 months to get over that Epic beat down Gilman put on your boys! Glad to see that you're well. Your boys are trying to take a book out of Gilman's play book and bring in some skilled OL players. Now the issue is whose going to coach them up?
