Yeah, how does it feel? You would know better than I. One white flag is enough, veri, that's all I need, although I appreciate your adamant surrender.Originally Posted by veritas

Are you suggesting that not getting existing weapons is the reason you oppose the bill?
Because if it is, there are two ways to go: get them or don't get them. Not getting them allows the weapons in question to remain in use, but it does start limiting availability.
Getting ones in use, I would have to look at this worked re gold years ago as a model. Or what other countries have done. Think the current legislative proposal says that the guns in question would have to be registered to current owner, if not already.
My comment was in response to Grindlewald's assertion that an AWB would mean that hardly anyone had assault weapons. I asked him how he was going to accomplish that but he failed to answer. Also, the idea of either confiscation or registration of existing weapons is DOA.
If by "run away" you meant "left for work" then yeah, I ran away.Originally Posted by veritas
I know something like work might be unfamiliar to you.
Firearms (eg "assault weapons") are durable goods. They last a long time. They don't usually break, or wear out under use. The ones that are out there are not going to disappear. there will still be millions of them, in the hands of the public, for the next 100 years.
Not turning in your gold could have resulted in a prison sentence of 10 years in Federal prison. (Executive Order 6102)Originally Posted by ms maggie

Seems that every LWNJ idea about "gun control" continues to present ideas that disarm those who follow the firearms laws, while doing nothing to punish those who violate them.

Ms. Maggie, given that you have already stated a desire to ban assault weapons, perhaps it would be helpful to ask what is the specific end result that you wish to achieve?
Rather than adding just one more law on the books that Congress and the Prez can feel good about that will accomplish nothing...let's do this instead:
1> Get mental health services in the schools and communities that need it...now!
There are too many folks that need help that are not getting it. Eliminate the stigma of those needing these services ( some posters here would definitely benefit)!
2> Mandatory sentences for those committing any crime with a gun. Lock 'em up.
This will do more than any gun ban! You're welcome...just doing my part as the non-partisan, independent- thinking dude that I am!
