Default Russian nuclear bombers circle Guam

"Air Force Capt. Kim Bender, a spokeswoman for the Pacific Air Force in Hawaii, confirmed the incident to the Washington Free Beacon and said Air Force F-15 jets based on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, “scrambled and responded to the aircraft.”

“The Tu-95s were intercepted and left the area in a northbound direction. No further actions occurred,” she said. Bender said no other details would be released “for operational security reasons.”"

Big deal. They flew over and left when the cavalry arrived.

Hopefully all the folks didn't run to one side of the island to get a better look of the bombers as they overflew.... sure don't want the island to tip over...

I'm sure, as a good Son-in-law, you would have at least sent them some life vests and also updated them on the dangers of being on the island that was so well described by a elected government official.....

"The Russian Tu-95 Bear-H strategic bombers were equipped with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and were followed by U.S. jets as they circumnavigated Guam on Feb. 12 local time—hours before President Barack Obama’s state of the union address."

To my knowledge, our aircraft don't generally fly around with nuclear weapons on board without special permission.

If you want web hits, you change the story from "capable of carrying nukes" to "were equipped with nukes". Well played, freebacon.

A buddy of mine used to intercept Bears over W. German airspace on a regular basis.

I'll bet that they do, as a matter of course...

Air Force official fired after 6 nukes fly over U.S.
B-52 bomber, accidentally armed with warheads, went over several states

“There is no more serious issue than the security and proper handling of nuclear weapons,” Skelton said in a statement Wednesday. “The American people, our friends, and our potential adversaries must be confident that the highest standards are in place when it comes to our nuclear arsenal."

I have no doubt that the Russian planes were not carrying nukes either.

I wonder how they came up with that little 'fact'. Actually, I don't.

During Vietnam, Navy ships on patrol in the Tonkin Gulf were often buzzed by Russian Bear aircraft.

The carrier had aircraft in the catapults manned and ready to launch, 24/7. Pilots were actually sitting in the cockpits and a crew was standby to launch them.

We would occasionally launch when they were too close.

I actually think both sides kind of enjoyed the game.
