Montgomery County police said 14-year-old Jonathan Aguiluc beat and suffocated 7-month-old Larissa Yanes inside a Silver Spring apartment.

Police said the girl's mother had left the baby in the care of the teenager while she worked an overnight shift on Thursday. Police said the mother found the girl unresponsive Friday morning and took her to a hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead.

Police said Augiluc told detectives that he beat his sister and she started crying. Police said he then covered her mouth and nose until she stopped crying and put her in a car seat inside the apartment.
