Remember what Bart said, that a lot of Ravens secretly want out of Baltimore and they want to go play for Rex. I wonder how that all turned out? LMAO!!!!!

They sent feelers to (Ray) Lewis' camp, discovering there was virtually no chance of convincing the future Hall of Famer to leave Baltimore.
That was interesting. I think fans around here assumed that Ray was looking to get out, but there was no interest.

I didn't see it in this article, but I think I heard on 105.7fm this morning that Scott was paid $70,000 per tackle this season. I know the whole story is not that simple, but that is quite striking.

In the article linked, I also noticed this observation that is quite interesting: "The top seven spending teams last season all failed to reach the playoffs, according to an ESPN study." Things that make you say hmmm...

I strongly suspect that those players who "secretly wanted out of Baltimore ..." were the ones who never would buy into the type of Locker Room and overall team that Harbaugh wanted to build.

Yes, some got out and some even made lots of money. However, to an NFL-caliber player, money is nice, but winning a Lombardi is what nearly every one who has strapped on a helment has dreamed about.

Do you think an eight year old Anquan, or Torrey or any other kid was playing in the backyard and pretending to sit at a desk and sign a contract? NO! When they were acting out the game complete with the "announcer", "fan reactions", etc., it was each one of them catching the winning touchdown in a Super Bowl!

There are guys in the Ravens locker room who will never get into the HOF without purchasing a ticket. However, the Super Bowl ring each will receive WILL be a memory that will last until the last day of each's life!

Actually Scott got $30M. It's no SB, but I'd take it

Read it. Bart left here for money and he got what he wanted. You don't think he could have stayed here for less money with teh chance of winning a SB? He wanted to get paid and he did. I'd bet my house he wouldn't trade his $30M for a SB ring

You really don't understand what motivates these players; you only know what motivates you.

Sure I do. I understand $22M in guaranteed money motivated him or he'd still be here

The point was Scott's claim that players didn't want to play for John Harbaugh, preferring to play for Rex instead -- NOT how much they were willing to play for. As usual...your understanding of the real issues is limited to the point of missing it completely. If Scott could go back in time, and take less money and win a Super Bowl ring, I guarantee he'd choose the Ravens and Harbaugh over the Jets and Ryan.

Perhaps. Or perhaps he thought he would have a better chance at a ring with the Jets. They did go to back to back AFCCGs.

It's actually pretty rare when a guy takes significantly less money from one team than another, regardless of how good / bad the two teams are. They all want to win. They all want to make a lot of money too.

That said... despite the rumor mill that there would be this exodus of players to "follow Rex"... it never really came to pass. Scott went, but the Jets paid him more (significantly more) than anybody else was offering. And Rex played in to his ego that he'd become "The Ray Lewis of New York". Leonhard went, but the Ravens were getting Landry back and Jim would have had to take a fraction of the money and a backup role to stay. Pryce went later, but he was pretty much "done" at that point anyway. And contrary to revisionist history, Rex didn't inherit a bottom feeder roster when he went up there. They were a playoff team in 4 of 6 years prior to '08, and missed the playoffs by one game in '08.

There was also actually a time when people had serious debate (and many truly believed) that Mark Sanchez was a better QB than Joe Flacco...

I can see players preferring Rex early on. Less discipline, talking trash and "hitting people in the mouth" probably sounded good. Unfortunately, it all backfired once Rex and circus filled their team with undisciplined and selfish players.

It's all about money for 99.9% of pro athletes. Don't be fooled by their little interview sound bites.

Exactly. That's the beauty of hindsight. That's why I said that if he had it to do over again, and could see how things would play out for both teams, he'd take less money and the ring over Rex and Tebow.
