Default Dick LeBeau "hurts to see Ravens win"

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/b...,1930937.story

He told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Tuesday that “it hurts to see the Ravens win anything.” And that is especially true because he feels the Steelers could have been the ones playing in the Super Bowl.

Really Mr. LeBeau? Your team pretty much sucked last year!

The Ravens did get healthy at the right time, but no one seemed to notice this outside of Baltimore. I guess this is why the Ravens were always picked to lose throughout the post season. But those of us following the team knew what was happening.

Same thing happened to the G-men when they won their 2nd with Eli. They'd been hurt most of the regular season, but got some key players back at just the right time. Winning a super bowl takes talent, coaching, and some luck. It's always been that way, and always will be that way. (Except of course for the Pats, who needed cheating along with everything else.)

Damn it Dick!!! if only they didn't have those pesky regular season games to determine which teams go to the playoffs, your team could have played and lost to the Colts. it's just not fair.

I like how he essentially says, if the steelers didn't have any injuries, and the ravens still had injuries, and those injured players didn't return late in the season, they would have been in the SB.

and if me Aunt had bollocks, she's be me Uncle

Let's see what happens when Caldwell's offense plays against his defense. It isn't "throw the bomb or check down to RR" any more.

I don't think it is the state of his team that is worrying him, but it might be a sign that he perceives that the Ravens have finally developed a "scary" offense that is as good or better than the Ravens defenses of the past!

His work hours (not to mention his headaches) will only increase as he tries to figure out a way to deal with the following:

    • An offensive identity that has been developed and has had enough actual experience to have settled on what worked vs what didn't work.
    • One of the best QBs in the game who is just coming into his prime with the confidence that came from outplaying two of the best QBs of the generation on his way to the Lombardi.
    • Not one, but Two, top-shelf running backs who complement each other but have just enough differences in their running style to complicate game planning.
    • A group of receivers that have the same mix of speed, route running, hands and toughness that had been seen in Pittsburgh for years - but without a diva in the group: just some tough, blue-collar players who attack the ball.
    • Two athletic tight ends that have been gashing his defenses since they entered the league as young, fresh-faced rookies.
    • An offensive line that is young and athletic (and seems to have an endless supply of serviceable to good to great men coming off the bench)

Gee! Why would he be worried!?!?!?

Injuries suck. And they're probably the reason why John Harbaugh, and maybe even Joe Flacco, are with the Ravens today. A 2007 Ravens team that isn't decimated by injuries would have likely meant a better record and Billick would have likely played out at least another year or two of his deal.

I don't recall the Steelers taking much pity on the Ravens that year when Ben threw 5 first half TDs against the Ravens arena league caliber CBs...

I think the difference between the two teams was a big one. And that was in coaching.

Antonio Brown said the lockerroom was divided. Harbaugh had a potential mutiny on his hands and used that to unify his team. He also made the decision to fire Cameron and play McKinnie.

Omar Epps failed to motivate his players and a portion of the team played for their stats instead of a title.

    Therein lies the difference.

Running out a banged up Ben Roethlisberger every year doesn't help either.

Oh and they're in a cap situation just as bad as the Ravens. Thing is, we just won the Super Bowl.

I am no Steeler fan, but I think Le beau has some valid points.

In 2013 don't look for the Ravens to steamroll the division, it will be a dog fight as usual.

No question that Big Ben is the heart and soul of their team, when he is hurt, it is a big problem for the Steelers.

Well said. I just hope that we can find a way to keep Boldin and McKinnie, or a comparable LT. Plus we will have a full off-season with Jim Caldwell and an opportunity for Joe and him to grow together. Could be fun and a nightmare for the rest of the AFCN.

Dick should be thanking the Ravens for introducing the world to Ben Roethlisberger.

Just goes to show you how close you are to winning the SB and going 8-8. Or winning the whole damn thing after 2 years of where you swore we were going to win it all. The 2010 and 2011 teams were better, but it wasn't in their cards. This year it was. Just goes to show you that getting into the playoffs can do wonders for a football team.

The Steelers were not a good team this year, especially when they got Ben back. So I don't agree with LeBeau. Antonio Brown talked about some deeper issues with the team that I think made the difference, along with an injured Roethlisberger.

But the Ravens are a handful of plays away from going 8-8 or 7-9 themselves.

Yet here they are, SB champs.

The Ravens recent run is exactly what I wish for the most. Keep a contending team together, make the playoffs more than anybody else, and eventually the titles will come. You might make it 15 years in a row and only win 1 or 2 trophies, lots of folks will bemoan your "play but chances are you'll have as many / more trophies in that time span than at least 80% of the rest of the league. And that suits me just fine as a fan...

That is very true. It seems that in today's NFL there are a few plays that are the difference between being a playoff team and not. Look at the Ravens from this year. If San Diego plays defense on a 4th and 29, and if Dallas doesn't totally mismanage the clock, maybe the Ravens are 8-8 and miss the playoffs. I'm sure other teams have some plays that either went their way or didn't that made the difference in their season. The Ravens got the benefit of those plays, and then parlayed that into a great post-season run. Next year, maybe they don't get those breaks. Or maybe the do. Bottom line is that there are no head and shoulders above the rest teams, it is the ones who get the breaks and the ones who make the most of them that usually end up champions. The Giants of last year can certainly understand this as well.
