Redskins fans ignore the fact that we were last to integrate? Really? I am pretty sure most of us are well aware of that as well as the fact that Bobby Mitchell is the player who broke that barrier for us. That and the name Redskins aren't related at all.

The former racist owner who was forced to integrate and the continued use of a racist name of course are related...to the racist legacy of the organization.

Good boy. Your real purpose is shining through. Haters hate. You pretending to have some altruistic motives is as vapid as your knowledge of the issue over the years.

Bad boy, you're trivializing again, smh.
I'm not pretending, I'm very clear about echoing the words and wants of NA's, another fail, nice try.

    I don't "hate any team.
(it's just football) so you keep telling yourself what you need to believe.

I dislike the steelers like no other but I do respect them....your team doesn't matter enough to hate lol, thats for dallas, philly and new york fans.

"In fact, to address this pervasive problem, the Oneida Nation is now working with Native American media outlets and other Indian nations to establish a fund that will help schools that follow in Cooperstown's footsteps to offset the cost of making similar transitions," Halbritter wrote in the New York Daily News.

Halbritter said there are 900 "ethnically insensitive" nicknames and mascots across the country at all levels of sport.

"The owners of professional sports franchises like the Cleveland Indians, the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Redskins continue to disrespect the heritage of Native American people with mascots and logos that insultingly portray aspects of our culture as a cheap cartoon -- and nothing more," Halbritter wrote.

Yeah, they all insult them by choosing them to represent their teams. That's what usually happens. Teams are known for picking a mascot that is disrespectful and not meant to honor anyone. I've said part of me wants guys like Halbritter to get his way. Erase everything. No mention of them in anything. God forbid sports teams consider their ancestors warriors. I bet their ancestors are spinning in their graves hearing all the whining.

    DOH!

“I don’t think the owners understand that they’re not honoring us,” said Robert Holden, deputy director of the National Congress of American Indians. “If they’re still saying that, please take it back. Honors like that we don’t need, we don’t want.”

Open a dictionary to “redskin.” Merriam-Webster: “usually offensive.” Oxford: “dated or offensive.” Random House: “often disparaging and offensive.” Collins: “now considered taboo.”
That’s the black-and-white truth, not an honor.

    He is/they are...inch by inch...it's slowly happening!
In 2005, the NCAA announced it would ban the use of Native American mascots during postseason tournaments after its research found that the images had “overwhelming evidence of potential harm.

Not only do you think you speak for NA's, now you think you speak for their dead ancestors, lol.
The "winning" bet would be that they would be very proud!

The only whining whiner on this issue is clear, that would be the desperate whiney white kid in nyc!

    WBNG no less bwahaha

"The questions of where you go to school, and what's your mascot nickname come up and they found themselves to be a bit uncomfortable in the conversation,"

"The (student) concerns are with the insensitivity that they perceived in the name "Redskins" and how it pertained to Native peoples,"

Now the school board will vote to decide if a new nickname should be adopted. The potential change is getting a lot attention in the community.

"I think that many of them are very pleased to see the possibility of change within their school community.

"Really just kind of a realization that time's changed and perceptions changed and if there was anyone who was offended by that then we need to take a hard look at it," Herbert said.

A change that could start a new tradition at Cooperstown Central School.

    WBNG??????? OHHH the irony

The Oneida Indian Nation was so moved by the actions of the Cooperstown students, that a letter by Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter was written to the students, commending their decision and offering to make a contribution to help offset the cost of changing mascots. In response to Wednesday night's vote by the Cooperstown Board of Education, Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter said, "We congratulate the Board of Education on its decision to transition to a new, more inclusive mascot.

They'll change it to whatever they like.
    Your opinion is worthless.
