Default Pistorius Bail Hearing-- In Chaos, Lead Detective Removed from Case

Oscar Pistorius' bail hearing descended into chaos Thursday as the lead detective investigating the killing of the Olympian's girlfriend was removed from the case amid attempted murder charges of his own.

Warrant Officer Hilton Botha is due to appear in court in May accused of opening fire on a minibus taxi in 2011. Charges against him were originally withdrawn but reinstated on Wednesday at the behest of the state prosecutor, police spokesman Brigadier Neville Malila told Reuters.

The revelation, combined with Botha’s struggle to answer key questions under cross-examination on Wednesday, boosted the confidence of Pistorius’ defense lawyers and his family.

It still baffles me that stories like this are lead stories. There is much more stuff going on in the world affecting many more people, and this is what the likes of NBC lead with.

Violence, famous celebrity brought low, beautiful blonde, courtroom drama - all the ingredients for salacious gossip that will beat out actual news for attention any time. If it bleeds it leads.

This is shaping up to look like an O.J. style debacle, and Pistorius will end up getting off in the face of overwhelming evidence because of public opinion.

With the fairy tale that Pistorius contrived, he's proving himself to be, not only a murderer, but a weasel too.

By no reasonable standards in the world I live in would anyone 1. upon hearing a noise in the bathroom assume it was a burglar instead of the person who was staying with you, 2. fire four shots at a door not knowing what's behind that door. Nor would the person behind that locked door (Reeva) upon hearing someone yell threats at them not either call out, "Honey, it's me in here" or just open the door. The only reason for not simply opening that door would be if you were deathly afraid of the person behind that door. Any reasonable judge or juror should be highly insulted by anyone who would think they could get away with those tales.

She was really killed secret CIA assassins as part of an Obama/ANC plot. The goal is to first of all to encourage anti gun legislation, also to destroy a White athletic icon, and just because Obama hates Whites. Don't laugh, some right wingers probably already believe it.

So he woke up forgetting his beautiful model girlfriend was in bed with him when they fell asleep? He didn't bother checking the bed to see if she was still their? It never crossed his mind she may have been in the bathroom before blindly shooting through the door? Sounds more like his girlfriend locked herself in and he got pissed off and shot through the door. And four shots fired through the door indicated he meant to do more than scare her. If these are the facts, the guy is guilty.

You shouldn't shoot if you don't know what you're shooting at or who you're shooting at. Oscar was either negligent or he is lying.

Why did he not ask the person in his bathroom to identify himself before shooting?

According to him, he did yell. But, just as far-fetched as it was for him to assume the person in the bathroom was more likely a burglar than the woman who was staying with him, she (just as unexplicably) didn't bother to simply answer, "Honey, it's just me in here."

I grabbed my 9mm pistol from underneath my bed. On my way to the bathroom I screamed words to the effect for him/them to get out of my house and for Reeva to phone the police. It was pitch dark in the bedroom and I thought Reeva was in bed.

His word against hers. But she's dead so it's only his word. And of course she would have answered him if he had yelled to her. Unless she was afraid of him and locked herself in the bathroom. That is the more likely scenario.

The South African justice system is such a corrupt mess since Mandela and crew took over, that it only has a 10% conviction rate. Oscar might even walk. Now, if he'd offed a white farmer and stolen his land, no problem.

Why is that relevant to the chaos now in place? This was supposed to be the new and better South Africa and it's a complete disaster.

Not guilty of premediated 1st degree murder. It was clearly a tragic accident.

If it is, then I can only say that the guy isn't that bright. He gets up. His girlfriend is not in the bed. He gets his gun and starts shooting through the bathroom door without even calling out to her. Now this may have happened but it's a damning indictment of Pistorius' intelligence.
