    Default Maryland Live!

Last week my daughter and I decided to check out Maryland Live! while she was home for a brief visit. We visited on Wednesday night. Some observations:

    - Much larger than I expected.

    - The Queen tribute band was okay.

    - Hated the haphazardly placed "coming soon" concealing screens. Looked awful.

    - Bartenders at bar near Rams Head -- simply awful. Unfriendly and inept. Both times when daughter ordered a vodka and tonic she was given vodka and cranberry juice. No apologies for getting it wrong - twice. Just a snotty hair flip and walk away. I ordered a Pino Grigio. She came back with a 1/4 inch of wine and said that they were out of Pino and asked if I wanted the 1/4 inch. I asked for a Chardonnay instead. She said that she would pour the Chardonnay into the Pino. Hmmm. Really? No, please just give me a new glass of wine. Mistakes I can forgive with a smile. Attitude nets no tip from me.

    - I hate, hate drinking from plastic cups. Was told that I couldn't carry a wine glass away from the bar. Hmmm. I am positive that in Atlantic City I drank from glass while gambling.

    - Employees at the door were polite and friendly.

    - Came out ahead by $100+ on a slot machine. (Thank you daughter for insisting that I walk away.) lol

    - Stayed for four hours which was longer than the 1/2 hour predicted that it would take for us to lose our limit.

    - Had a nice dinner at The Prime Rib. The food was wonderful but I had a couple of service issues with them. Dealt directly with management on that. (Seriously - I just spent over $100 on dinner and you have to "ask" if a pot of coffee can be made?)

    - Overall, the casino was clean. A few machines were out-of-service. It wasn't very crowded but there was a mix of people.

    - Valet parking for $5 minus tip -- love it.

That's Hollywood Perryville. That place is awful.

While I don't play much I do like the place. It is much better than I thought it would be. Will be interested to see what happens when the tables are in play.

For those who are worried about parking and walking into the casino the $5 you pay for a valet is well worth the money.

I'll check it out after they add table games because it is closer to me than charlestown but doesn't sound like I am missing anything .....

meanwhile, just booked a room at the revel in atlantic city for next month and they turn around and go bankrupt less than a year after they open .....

I read they spent like $3 billion to build the place and had $7 million in revenue in january ......

    http://www.newsworks.org/index.php/a...revel-bankrupt

gaming competition in just about every north east state is driving the $numbers$ down making these luxury destination resorts a no win proposition ......

I had a blast the couple of times that I stayed in Atlantic City. Once at the Trump Marina and the other I can't remember but it was outside of the casino area.

thanks for the review, I will get there when they add the cards and dice but I don't do slots .......

it is really nice over in the marina area, I believe the trump marina is now the golden nugget link ......

the borgota is right next door over in that marina area and the last time I was there late on saturday night the clubs were overflowing and it looked like vegas (I was leaving after playing cards - I am too old for those clubs but there was a time )......

the competition from PA, WVA and Delaware is hurting them bad and I just head up to charlestown a couple times a month to place cards instead of heading up to AC anymore ......

for any other night but saturday, you can get great deals ......

I am looking at this room for around $100 and rooms at the tropicana and other hotels can be had for a rack rate as low as $69 or less if you play there on any night but Friday and Saturday ......

sooner or later all these new places are going to be getting a smaller and smaller piece of the shrinking pie ......

    I've been to Charlestown.

That's a pretty room. My friend at the time found a great deal for the now Golden Nugget hotel. The room was very nice. I've never been to Vegas and never really wanted to visit even though I've had a couple of opportunities.

I love vegas but my wife doesn't like to gamble so my opportunities are limited for destination travel there .....

I did drag her along for my 50th and I have to admit I enjoyed the shows we saw as well .....

most of my casino visits are while traveling on company business or short trips here on the east coast ......

there are casinos just about everywhere now and even an app to help locate them .......

I was in Louisville a few weeks ago and they had casinos just over the river in Indiana ......

My overall impression of Maryland Live! is that it's very low-grade: in terms of the clientele, the bar and food service, the loud pulsating music, and the games available. No class there at all.

thanks 4 the 411 on Maryland Live.....I'm a Vegas gal myself but do enjoy AC as well just not as much as I do Vegas....blackjack is my game!!!

I think everyone should go to Vegas at least once....in my opinion it's an amazing town....the Signature at the MGM is my fav place to stay there.....when I'm in AC I like the Trump Plaza.

Hubby and I are thinking next month to go check out the Casino in Hershey....has anyone been to that one?

Unless you're a slots fanatic, don't waste your time going to Maryland Live!, the Hollywood Casino in Perryville or the Casino at Ocean Downs. People sitting in front of those slot machines for hours on end are like a bunch of zombies. Very depressing.

    Cool I just Can't!

When the Hurricane hit the other Fall and my electric was out, I called my Gambling Buddy who was also without power and said, "Why don't we drive up to Perryville and check out that place." So we did. Needless to say we were both Unimpressed. We wandered around and looked at the VLTs wondering where the Big Progressives were. You just won't have the Wide Area Network Progressives like the other WOF games and such at Real Casinos, not under a State run VLT system. Had a bite at the Epic Buffet which was anything but "Epic" as far as we were concerned compared with AC & LV. We actuially did roll a few 20's into a couple slots for a bit then left. John who is Retired and rides a bus up to play Pai Gow Tiles every week at the Taj in AC saw no reason to return. I mostly play Pai Gow Poker with a little Roulette and or Mini-Bac thrown in so no tables for me either. I do play slots more in AC with their higher table minimums than LV but still didn't see any reason to return either. No Free Alcohol and lack of any Smoking sections put me off as well.

These Local places are still a far cry from a Real Casino to me. They're fine for the people who haven't been anywhere else. As far as I'm concerned, I have no desire to gamble at home. That's like sitting on the couch watching TV and getting Drunk. What's the Point? I go away to Stay & Play both in AC and LV, it's the Trip and the Getaway for a couple days when I drive up to AC and the 2X a year I fly out and stay in LV for a week.

That and MD gets enough of my Money already. I'm not giving them any more.

I am not a big gambler, but I used to enjoy AC back in the day.

My problem with AC is the trip back in the evening or at night. The crowd on the buses going up are usually happy and in a good mood. The trip back is like being on the voyage of the damned.
