June 23, 2005--Forty-nine percent (49%) of Americans say that President Bush is more responsible for starting the War with Iraq than Saddam Hussein. . .

Remember the good old days when the Republicans would comfort us by telling us that Bush is better than Hussein.
Polls show that most Americans disagree.![]()
Presidents can invade any country without Congress' approval. The Executive branch gets 60 days to justify expanding military operations past a certain number of days.
The basic point being, the President has FAR more power over the military and foreign policy than domestic budgetary issues. So its a stretch to make the comparison you're trying to make...
Congress hasn't declared war since WWII. It requires effort and placing your political butt on the line. The reason a declaration is important is because we are supposed to pay for our wars using bonds. This of course means the populace has to be sold on the war. They need to be convinced they have a perceived stake in the outcome. You quickly see this is a lot of trouble and work for congress when it's ten times easier to call your war a police action. It's unconstitutional but so much is anymore.
So Obama could have given the order to send troops to rescue the Americans in Benghazi but didn't? A perfect example of dereliction of duty......thanks for confirming that the President can make the call without the Secretary of State, Defense or the CIA's concurrence.
Are you saying that Americans weren't rescued from Benghazi? Well, you are wrong:
1:15 a.m.: CIA reinforcements arrive on a 45-minute flight from Tripoli in a plane they’ve hastily chartered. The Tripoli team includes four GRS security officers, a CIA case officer and two U.S. military personnel on loan to the agency. They don’t leave the Benghazi airport until 4:30 a.m. The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan authorities over permission to leave the airport; obtaining vehicles; and the need to frame a clear mission plan. The first idea is to go to a Benghazi hospital to recover Stevens, who they rightly suspect is already dead. (Also killed was a State Department communication specialist.) But the hospital is surrounded by the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia militia that mounted the consulate attack.
●6 a.m.: Libyan forces from the military intelligence service finally arrive, now with 50 vehicles. They escort the Americans to the airport. A first group of 18, including two wounded, depart at 7 a.m. A second group of 12, plus the four dead, leave at 10 a.m. for Tripoli and then the long flight back to America.

Don't confuse Terri k with facts. He's still looking for Obama's BC
So you answered the question, spending is going up, it's just the rate of increase that is slowing. So if we spend more this year than last year, why all these scare tactics? Why would there be negative effects if we're spending more. Why should anyone lose their job?
Because they are the real driver of the debt. We're already in big trouble if interest rates rise. The debt will really explode if the cost of servicing the debt rises with interest rates. Why deal with entitlements now rather than 5 or 10 years from now? There's no logical reason why the long-term debt problem gets more attention than the sluggish economy and job creation...
The Democrats better hope that the spending cuts are a tad more noticeable than the ones that caused cuts in services and furlough among state government employees here in Maryland. It's too bad that the cuts cannot be spread more across the board.
I read the entire article and Obama isn't mentioned as having done anything in his capacity as CIC. The rescue, or lack thereof, seems to have been handled solely by the CIA and State Dept. Did I miss a citation indicating Obama giving orders as CIC?
Thank goodness Woods and Doherty took matters into their own hands and did not rely on orders from Washington.
So it's the preznit's job to micromanage every CIA opp?
Since when?
Oh, right...
