Default McConnell asks: Prisoners at Guantanamo Bay to get GI Bill benefits?

Really? I wonder if he also thinks Kim Jong-un is the sexiest man alive!

Is the Obama administration preparing to give prisoners at Guantanamo Bay GI Bill benefits as part of a plan to “completely crush their souls with bureaucracy?” Wired Magazine reports that Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office asked the Pentagon that very question after a constituent sounded the alarm.
The problem? That far-fetched notion came from a story on the satirical site “The Duffel Blog,” a military-focused answer to The Onion. (Wired posted the constituent’s letter and the query from McConnell’s office on its top-notch “Danger Room” blog on national security).
“I am writing on behalf of a constituent who has contacted me regarding Guantanamo Bay prisoners receiving Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits,” McConnell wrote. “I would appreciate your review and response to my constituent’s concerns.”
I really thought that a senator with so many years in the Senate would check for himself (you know, look into it before sending a formal inquiry about it). Or was this a more diabolical attempt on McConnell's part to throw out false accusations aimed at President Obama?

Ha ha ha! Obama closed gitmo years ago!

People are going to get a good laugh at this if they can get a second away from their high paying jobs in the booming green energy sector!

Ha ha ha! McConnell is facing an insurrection by Kentucky Tea Partiers and the Democrats are looking to mount a serious challenge to his re-election as well. I'd love to see this guy fall.

    Serious challenge with Ashley Judd...right.

There is a better chance of Illinois electing someone with integrity.

Why isn't Judd a credible challenger?

She is beyond left. May work in CA, WA or MA but not KY. I hope she does run.

I sometimes get the feeling that she's a "decoy" candidate. McConnell's not all that popular in KY. Of course, I don't think he's ever been popular but seems to always win.

No, for other Democratic candidates. You know, taking the heat from Rove and others while not really planning to run.

the op is stupid. As is the senator from Kentucky. Meanwhile, has Ms. Judd even announced her intention to run for the senate seat? McConnel's office must be very nervous if they are running ads against a non candidate. Maybe they should have spent more time actually governing as opposed to obstructing...

    Here's my hunch.

If it really came down to it, Kentucky would go nuts for Ashley Judd and I hate, hate, hate present day country music. She would clean this old fart's clock.

The OP is about a veteran senator sending an official inquiry based on information intended to be satire. You may think it is stupid, but it is revealing that this veteran senator couldn't figure out for himself that the information presented to him from a constituent was bogus - instead, forwarding an inquiry about it to the Department of Defense. Either that, or he knew it was false and sent the inquiry anyway, knowing some blogster would pick it up and spread it as truth.

    This is the constituent's letter.

And here is a link to the Dufelblog. Anyone with half a brain would recognze it immediately as a military satire site and not REAL military news.

which goes back to the second sentence in my post... the Senator is stupid.

No disrespect intended to the thread's originator.

I misread your post then and apologize for drawing the wrong conclusions from it.
