Default MSN Money: Maryland 10th Worst State for Taxes

"What earned Maryland its place among the bottom dwellers? It's the sixth-worst state for individual income taxes, fifth-worst for unemployment insurance and the 11th-worst state for property taxes. Its one bright spot is its sales tax, where it ranked the eighth-best state due to minimal local sales taxes. According to the report, Northrop Grumman chose to move its headquarters from Maryland to Virginia, citing the better business tax climate there."
No real shock here. Thanks Marty. And you want to become president? HAH!

Of course this is BEFORE Marty and the boys [Mike & Mike] jack up the state sales tax on gasoline and the city and counties follow suit with their individual hikes, making Martyland the highest in the country for gasoline taxes.

You are wrong. According to the Democrats, Maryland is the 10th best state for taxes. We should raise them to become even more competitive.

This really a major story that is not fully explored. Maryland is a great state to retire from and a not so good state to retire to. The flood of retirees out of Maryland is real and has been for a number of years. The effort to recruit retirees from high tax states in the Blue politics world is real. Losing companies to other states is bad enough but when you are losing Maryland and Federal pension retirees you are sending benefit checks directly from the DC area elsewhere. Oh yeah from Maryland elsewhere. Think about it. There are some in Maryland and elsewhere(especially elsewhere) who want to tax retiree benefits even if you no longer live in the state. Of course that would be double taxation but their thinking is if you ever worked in a state they should be able to tax you until death do you part.

Ah, good old double taxation. I think of it this time of year when doing our taxes. You know, the part where you must add your state tax refund from last year (which means we overpaid) to this year's tax form as income. And what's up with that damn 50% surcharge called the "piggyback" tax? I thought that was only supposed to be temporary.
