Default No smoking at Orioles/Ravens stadia

New ban this year--must leave stadium, but you will be readmitted

Those seeking their nicotine fix during Orioles or Ravens games have been accustomed to sequestering in designated corners of the stadium. Now, they'll have to leave completely. The Maryland Stadium Authority announced a new policy Monday banning smoking completely anywhere in M&T Bank Stadium and the entire Camden Yards complex.

Both the Ravens and Orioles have said they will announce a plan to allow smokers to exit the stadium and the re-enter. The MSA's new policy also makes it illegal to smoke any tobacco product within 25 feet of any entry, outdoor air intake, or operable window of the stadium structures.

Well, as the record shows, I am definitely not a smoker rights person but I do feel kinda bad for them here. A lot of people crave that cig when they drink and now it looks like they'll have to be exiled in some area outside of the stadiums.

It especially sucks for smoking Ravens fans in the upper deck.

And they probably won't be able to take a drink with them if they want to go out for a smoke.

Just as at many bars you have to go outside to smoke but can't take your drink.

What am I missing? The stadium is an outdoor facility, is it not? I don't smoke but if someone is smoking under the seats as long as I don't get within a foot and a half of them I do not see any issue with them smoking. It affects me not at all.

your logic has no place here. Cigarettes = bad.

revenues lost from cigarette taxes not being collected due to limitations on smoking = unintended consequence of librat social enginering. ( and more than likely Bush's fault in the minds of the obamabots)

that being said, it seems most professional ballparks and stadiums are already in-lockstep on their persecution of the tobacco user.

(I am not a smoker, never were, but to each his own...)

It would be nice to see someone, something, not cave in and change their laws just because everyone else did. I know a lot of stadiums around the country have banned smoking, but that doesn't mean Maryland needs to do it too.

Wait a sec, this is MD. Of course they do.

Have these people got together with the people who want to make it legal to smoke pot? That would be a pretty good pissing contest.

It has been for a while since they've banned smoking in outdoor places.

The Redskin's stadium makes people go outside of the stadium onto the sidewalk.

I've never noticed anyone smoking the stands at M&T so I thought it was already banned.

    Sprightly--

It's been banned from the stands for a while, but I think they had smoking areas on the concourses.

What ever happened to Betamanlet? This would make his head explode!

I do think this is pretty ridiculous. Have designated smoking areas so that you're not smoking in the middle of the crowded stadium, but I see no reason to force people all the way out of the stadium. If you're up in the nosebleeds and its a crowded game, that's quite a hike for a smoke.

When they banned smoking indoors I said they wouldn't be happy with smokers outdoors either and would eventually ban that too. Everyone said no they just wanted the smokers outdoors and they would be satisfied with that. I see I was right again. This won't stop until the only place left to smoke is inside your own house and they will probably try to go after that too eventually.

I wonder how much this has to do with the stadium not wanting to pay people to clean up cigarette butts.

25 feet from the gate would have people putting their smokes out on the #8 statue. They'll be cleaning them up regardless.

If cigarette buds start showing up on the ground in the new designated outdoor areas, than ALL smoking on stadium property should be banned completely.
