Regarding Roberts, we all know he's 35 but that does not mean he is using a walker to run the bases. It all about increments. Would you rather have a healthy BRob circa 2013 or Andino/Casilla/Flaherty at 2nd. And don't go on a tangent like so many do lamenting why Hill, Uggla or some other marginal alternative was not brought in.

Look, B Rob is not likely to have an average over .300 or an OBP over .400 but his presence at the top of the lineup, if/when he hits over .250 with an OBP over. 300 will infuse the team with a legitimate table setter who can run the bases. But, by now, based on your comments, I surmise your measurement for Brian's success in 2013 will rely on a benchmark of how well he did at age 27 in 2005. I'll choose instead to use a benchmark relying on the recent alternatives the O's have been forced to employ.

Frankly, unlike some, I'm optimistic about 2nd. With Roberts healthy and both Flaherty and Schoop showing some potential, I'm seeing light ahead but some can only live in darkness. You surprised me though. I never saw you as the doom and gloom type.
Mr. Weenie, you should play closer attention. Weird-O suffers from severe moodswings as is evident from his self-proclaimed screen name. Some days he's sensible, rational and calm while other days the angry and insulting weird-O is on display. Try to be understanding. I'm sure that weird-O does as well as he can given the personality swings that he has to endure.

Because he's a fan favorite, he'll probably be given every opportunity to win the 2B job, and maybe a month or so to prove himself. But Roberts hasn't done anything in years to deserve it. I hope Roberts doesn't become a distraction to the other two more talented 2B on the roster. Last year during a game on MASN, Roberts came on the broadcast and announced he was taking over 2B on a full time basis. Andino was pretty bad at the time, But the only real leverage I thought Roberts had was the terrible contract.

This is Buck's attitude on the subject. According to Jim Duquette, Buck said the job is Brian's. JD later said, "The O's shouldn't count on Roberts being able to play everyday, and they aren't"

I understand. No problem. You should consider joining me every morning at 6am for the $3.99 lumberjack breakfast at Denny's. Four fried eggs, four strips of bacon, home fries, biscuits and a bottomless pot of coffee. High energy food is very calming.

My doctor told me I had to stop so I did the only sensible thing - I replaced the doctor.

My hunch, and it is just that, is that he will have at least one stint on the disabled list and play just over 100 games, and hit somewhere in the 260 range.

He's off to a great start this spring but that just doesn't mean much. It is however, always awesome to see a player with something to prove.

If Roberts plays 100 games and hits .260 that would probably be a huge upgrade over last season at 2B. The problem is Roberts fielding was subpar 3-4 years ago, and I cant imagine how bad it is now. Andino at least brought excellent defense.

I'm surprised that so few of the posters have been able to identify the real reason why Roberts is with the team and on the field this spring. He's been hanging around the house for two years with a headache and his wife threatened him. Haven't any of you fellow and lady posters ever been married before? Good grief!!! Why am I the only one who can see the obvious?

Roberts will play less than 100 games this year.

OH has an article about how buff Roberts looks in camp, and supposedly his bat is doing very well too. I havent checked any box scores this year so far, because ST stats are so deceiving. But the consensus over there is Roberts will be the opening day 2B.

Roberts and Reimold are pretty much the same proposition now... if they're healthy and up to potential, they can be major "plus" pieces on the roster. But neither one has given us any reason to be confident that they can. So you treat them like extra credit. If they help, great! If not, you have to have other plans. You don't count on them alone to fill starting jobs.

Yeah, he does seem to look a bit different from last year.

it sounds like Reimold is still fighting injuries. he hasnt been able to play a defensive position and Buck said he isn't likely to take him noth, just to DH.

at 29 yrs old, he's still just a player with potential. the problem for the team is, DD said he didn't feel compelled to bring in a big bat, because they were expecting NR back and felt like he could fill that role.

Reports out of ST are all positive. He looks ripped, and has been hitting well. Who knows what could happen but on March 8th, it looks like Roberts is the starting 2B until he won't be.
