Default Republicans 'Out Of Touch' And 'Extreme'

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2765432.html
Some unwelcome confirmation for Republicans worried that their party needs an image overhaul: A majority of Americans views the Republican party as out of touch, too extreme and resistant to change, according to a Pew poll released Tuesday.

Sixty-two percent of adults said that Republicans were out of touch with the American people, and 52 percent that the party was too extreme. In comparison, 46 percent said that Democrats were out of touch, and 39 percent that they were too extreme.

Democrats were also viewed as slightly more likely to be looking out for the country's future -- and, by a 19-point margin, as the party more open to change.
I wonder what we Republicans can do to repair our reputation after so much right wing insanity, general stupidity, and dismal failure. I know, let's elect a bunch of Tea Party nutbars!

They will eventually change. Why? Power. Go back and check out history and what was being said about democrats in the 80's. They were viewed as an out of touch group of liberals who were still living in the 60's. They had an incumbent president who was soundly defeated, and then an embarassing nominee who was landslided. From 1968 to 1992 they ruled the White House for a total of 4 years out of 24. A lot of people thought they were done as a party. They changed. Why? Power. Go too long without it and necessity will force change. So too will republicans. When they figure out they need to in order to gain power again, they will morph into what is needed to win. Democrats did, and so will Republicans. Such is the life of a political party.

If they become less extreme right wing, where will that leave you?

Actually more in touch with them. I am pro-choice, not religous, and for as many freedoms as can be tolerated in a free society. The only part of the republican party that attracts me is fiscal conservatism, and they have been very lacking on that lately. The only reason I am still republican is because the democrat policies are even worse when it comes to the belief in personal and fiscal accountability. I am for as little government and less taxes as can be achieved. The rest of the party platform dis-interests me. I would embrace a third party with truly sensible policies, but that is not going to happen.

Just like Democrats...killing unborn children is okay but executing violent criminals is not.

The question is how much electoral pain the GOP will have to experience to make the necessary adjustments. They continue to believe it's the sales pitch and not the product so they've go a ways to go.

At the congressional level, they have a bunch of seats locked due to gerrymandering. Not sure how many more Presidential elections they need to lose before finally looking themselves in the mirror.

I hope both parties continue their march to the fringe and a party that actually represents the people can emerge in the vast moderate middle.

I'm fully support the death penalty and would like to see it used more frequently.

I would like to see that as well, but have all but given up on it. The one thing the two parties are able to work together on is keeping a third party from becoming too powerful.
