Default Democrats' hypocrisy on voter access

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opi...2630812.column

    Well stated Marta.

Many Maryland politicians spritz on Eau de Hypocrisy at least occasionally. But Gov. Martin O'Malley and fellow Democrats bathed in it with their support for the inaccurately labeled Referendum Integrity Act, an effort to make it harder for citizens to petition a law to referendum.
House Bill 493 (SB 673), sponsored by Del. Eric Luedtke, a Democrat from Montgomery County, should be called the "Voter Suppression Act," as that is its clear intent.
•It requires that each petition page contain language saying that the information is subject to public disclosure and requires each signer to include a birth date.
•It requires the sponsor of a petition to form a campaign finance committee for each law that is petitioned.
•It requires petition circulators to take a training course and prohibits circulators from being paid per signature.

The Republicans should propose an amendment that petition signers be required to show photo ID. That will either:

a.) shine a brighter light on the Democrats hypocrisy
    or
    b.) kill the bill

I like the idea of requiring the public disclosure notice and birth date and requiring a campaign finance committee for each law petitioned.

Prohibiting circulators from being paid per signature seems like a smart move and requiring training makes sense too, just as election workers are required to undergo. Knowing who is behind the petitions and who is handling personal information would also be helpful to keep things transparent.

It would only add to the integrity of the process. Voter suppression attempts ~ conveniently ignored by Ms. Marta would include things like this.

We elect people to represent us and it's up to voters to remove those people when they no longer represent our views through their votes. As the recent referendums proved, the results only reinforced the point that our elected officials' votes reflected the majority of voters' choices on each referendum issue.

Not really. That idiotic move was so poorly executed that it would never have stopped a single voter from voting.
