Question Saturday Night Live Top 10

I've been watching the specials that have been looking back at the different decades of SNL, and I thought it would be an interesting debate, right now off the top of my head and in no particular order my top 5 would be:

    Eddie Murphy
    John Belushi
    Bill Murray
and these two I'll probably take some guff for
    Jon Lovitz
    Bill Hader

The rest I'll have to really think about and get back to you.

I liked Lovitz. Adding to your list...

    Phil Hartman
    Dana Carvey
    Chris Farley
    Gilda Radner
    Kristin Wiig

This is a hard list to do, yeah I think farley would be in the top 10...not sure about the other four but they were all great to, and somehow will farrell needs to be in the top 10, and as bad as his career was after SNL, Joe piscopo needs to be on the list somewhere, he was great on SNL

I like your top 4. I think I had stopped watching it by the time Hader showed up because I don't remember him. I'd add to your list though:

    Gilda Radnor
    Chris Rock
    Chevy Chase
    Billy Crystal
    Garrett Morris
    Ben Stiller

You can see I'm kind of partial to the 70's

I left chevy chase off cause he was only there one year. billy crystal was a cast member after eddie and joe piscopo left...Jim Belushi described it like they opened up the check book like steinbrenner and signed free agents...they brought in crystal, martin short, harry shearer and the other guy from this is spinal tap...but that cast only lasted a year or two...you look mahverlous!!! Radner i would put in my top 10 but i don't think my top 5.

Was stiller on the show? I know i was surprised that gilbert gottfried was part of the sacrificial lamb cast of 80-81 that came after the original cast left, and damon wayans was on the show for a year to. Hader is still with the cast and as far as I am concerned kristen wiig and hader have carried the show for the last couple of years.

You guys missed three big ones: the Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer trio. To me,
the best group of women the show ever had.

Chevy Chase #1. His bit with Richard Pryor is a classic that you CANNOT put on TV anymore. Created the newscaster segment, "Our top story tonight General Franco is still dead."

That explains why I didn't know who Hader was because I stopped watching the show regularly years ago

Probably the most iconic skit ever on SNL (with the possible exception of the Blues Brothers).

If not for Belushi, I would actually put Gilda Radner at the very top. That woman was an absolute genius. Will Ferrell and Eddie Murphy also near the top. Chris Farley, Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Phil Hartman, Tina Fey... unbelievable talent.
