The most recent Department of Agriculture report on the general characteristics of the SNAP program's beneficiaries says that in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2010:
••47% of beneficiaries were children under age 18.
••8% were age 60 or older.
••41% lived in a household with earnings from a job — the so-called "working poor."
••The average household received a monthly benefit of $287.
••36% were white (non-Hispanic), 22% were African American (non-Hispanic) and 10% were Hispanic.]

Wow.
White people make up 75% of the population but 35% of those on SNPA
Black people make up 12.3% of the population but a whopping 22% of those using SNAP??
Hispanic people are 12.5% of the population yet only 10% of SNAP users.

Something similar happened to us too and it was a well~known plumbing chain. He was difficult to understand but so are some in my family. I'm sure he was licensed. And his work was fine.

And I was similarly surprised when we had a new washer and dryer delivered and installed from one of the two big home improvement chains. One of the two could speak English, but they spoke to each other in Spanish the entire time. They did an excellent job.

Normally ~ I do ask because I do not want to hurt local businesses who follow the law and have to compete against unfair labor practices.

I'm not suggesting that the man didn't do a good job. My point is that he was trying to explain the problem and possible solutions. But after several minutes both of us were becoming frustrated so I told him to do what he thought best. Yes, stupid for me to say that to a plumber.

You better hope that he did not put in a tunnel to be used for smuggling illegals into your county. I would check just to be on the safe side!

Great! If they show up I have some stuff around the house waiting for an inexpensive (cheap) handyman's attention. They won't have a problem finding work here.

The quotas are generally focused on ownership and not employee make-up, i.e. - minority owned businesses. It could be that the these MBEs (which are also small businesses) are made up mainly of family, friends, acquaintances, etc.

I don't believe people on snap post here. The only person I know who gets upset is ybnormal. In his mind all blacks get handouts, or goverment jobs. A black with a goverment job = snap.
