Yes I think that is what many do. I also think the song shows us how proud we are as Americans and how we can have this open discussion on this site without fear of retrimand. To each his own but nice

I personally stand the whole game and don't wear a hat. I don't care for this song mainly because I don't like that he is making money off of us being at war. Now if he gives the profits to vets or something like that then I will change my opinion.

One thing that really does make me mad is when we have a nationally televised game and we have a celebrity sing the National Anthem. None of them are as good as the regular guy M. Miller. I think it is disrespectful to him to say "when the whole country is watching we would rather have someone famous sing but the rest of the time you are good enough" Just my opinion.

Really we need a song to show us how proud we are to be "American"? Now to me that's comical but if that were to be the case then why not a good one?

Ray Charles - America the Beautiful
Kate Smith - God Bless America
James Brown - Living in America
    Neil Diamond - America
    Prince - America
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A.
John Melloncamp - Ain't that America

all of them blow away that song we are forced to listen to now.

A song to show how proud we are...LOL

Agreed, all better songs. I love this country & respect soldiers who've fought for it (including members of my family), but I wouldn't stand for the Greenwood song, it's worse than 'Renegade'.

Love me some Ray Charles. IINM SB XXXV was the last time he sang it at a Super Bowl, so that should have special meaning here in Baltimore.

One more thing as people tend to misunderstand. My feelings are not to disrespect anyone who has volunteered to join one of the services. I just do not like that song and wish the Ravens would stop playing it, that is all.

    They do...but:

JM's song is called Pink Houses
Bruce's Born In The U.S.A. is essentially a protest song
Kate Smith's God Bless America is long identified with the Philadelphia Flyers.
(me being a long time Flyers bandwagon fan since '71-'72 I wouldn't mind)
Ray Charles is the best of the bunch.

Lee Greenwood's, while not particularly a song I like it's the most universally accepted.

    Now to the National Anthem:
The Ravens need to dump Misheal Miller.
Yes he has a great voice and he's classically trained.

The "big problems" are....He sings the song not like it's about national pride but instead it seems like he sings it to show off his pipes, as if it's his moment in the spotlight and it's his audition for bigger things.

What I REALLY can't stand is his over enunciation of the words that make it sound like mispronunciations.

    Misheal Miller
    follow along:
    :14 "HO say can...."
    :20 "PIE the dawns early..."
    :28 "HAT the twilights last..."
:57 "HAND the rockets red glare..."
    1:20 "HO say does that...."

(and the next two really kill me)
    1:29 "PAN NORRR yet wave..."
1:34 "WHORE???? the land hov the free..."
1:45 "HAND the home hov the brave".

Misheal Miller ruins the National Anthem for me, I want to walk away...but of course I can't and won't do that.

The Ravens would do better to have different singers each game.

(All that being said I realize the Ravens have him because if necessary he can stretch the song to try to time it with the plane fly overs....but they don't have those but once a year, maybe twice.....and other could do the same thing. "IF" he could stop his mispronunciations and stop making it about "him"..I wouldn't have a problem with him)

    RANT over lol

I will stand for both songs. i am a Korean veteran. however i go to a lot of high school games.
when the National Anthem is played all most no one puts their hand over there heart including the players. this is is a disgrace to me. the people that came to see the game do not put their hand over there heart either. this does piss me off.

I guess these are just different days. as someone pointed out, we are perpetually at war now. so I guess that has sort of watered down how people percieve what it means to serve your country.

personally, I'm not an overty patriotic person. but my gratitude, for those who laced 'um up for our country, never diminishes.

I dislike that song. and I don't stand up when they play it.

in fact, I must block it out, because I'm not even aware that they play it or that everyone stands up for it.

but I love when the Ravens band plays songs like "enter sandman".
a marching band playing a song by one of the most successful speed metal bands ever? I'd buy that for a dollar

Doesn't matter much to me what's it's called, it far better than any Lee has done. If your hung up on the name just insert R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A. instead.

I know it's a protest song but it is better than the one we are forced to listen to. It's also fits seeing the situation we are in as a country now with our endless wars.

Don't know how we know for sure that its the most "universally accepted" since we as fans don't have a say in the matter. I would also be willing to bet that people are afraid to say they don't like the song for fear of being called something as silly as un-patriotic or not proud of being American.

One last time for me, it's an awful song that was pretty much buried in obscurity until someone connected with the Ravens decided to play it after 9/11. It's gone on so long now that there is no way out of the song without fear of fans crying that the Ravens don't care about those who join the military.

I don't care to get in to the debate about the song (I'm fine with it, and if it went, I'd want to see some comparable ceremony carried out)... but they DO actually bring the colors out during the Greenwood song. It's been like that every week for as long as I can remember.

This is neat to see and I'm proud to be an American as well as a Raven fan

I have been a season ticket holder since this team became into existence, and I refuse to stand up to “Proud to Be an American”. It is no anthem to me.
When the “Star Spangled Banner” is played, I always stand up straight, and I never shout out “Oh”, because I think that is disrespectful.

As I said the song is not a favorite for me, I'll say it's just ok. If it comes on the radio I'll change the station.

For a different perspective you are incorrect though about the song being "buried in obscurity".
I'm sure it wasn't played on whatever station you listen too and you aren't exposed to the song in your life circle etc etc...but the song always did "ok to well" in music research. It had been around since the first Gulf War and was a natural when 9/11 hit. It already was a natural for kids groups and school functions which also lends to it's broad appeal. Broad as in across generations, races, cross over music tastes giving it a firm foundation etc not necessarily in the sense of being a mega "chart topper".

In that case, you need to check this out:

    And it's only $.99.

That's "Jose can you see", the Mexican national anthem.

I don't care for Greenwood's song, but I also don't have a problem with people making up their own minds about standing or sitting.
