Default Ipod/Computer question

My I Pod is dying - it won't hold a charge. I want to transfer all of the music on it now to a new I Pod. How do I transfer the files on my I Pod to my PC to re-tranfser...or is there a different/better way to do that?

Have you looked into a new battery?

Isn't the music already in your Itunes library?

All my music is in mp3 format, and I have it all backed up on disk. My player has over 16,000 songs.

How'd you do that ?

I created a partition on my hardrive and put Itunes there ...does that save the songs ?

Your music should be stored on your iTunes library. You should be able to plug in your new iPod and sync it up - and then have your music on both of your iPods. Your missing 2500 songs are probably still there.

My backup is on an external drive and on Carbonite.

I screwed up and formatted a drive by mistake once. 80 gig of music gone. Some of it I still haven't been able to find.

I won't do that again...

Without looking at the video, can't you sync it back to your player?

A basic solution is to get an "RCA Y-connector", and insert the male plug into your mp3-player headphone jack, and insert the left and right RCA plugs into either your pc imput jacks or into a cassette deck imputs. Or a home stereo amplifier imputs.

For the pc, you will probably need a software interface, or Windows sound recorder might work...or the free Audacity program. Just something to transfer the analog imput to digital so that you can save it on your pc. The only problem might be in tagging each track. This method may or may not leave you with just one long track...but at least you have the music.

The male end of the connector is usually 1/8'' for regular headphones..

Why would anybody want to convert digital music to analog in order to copy it?

The original poster probably has all the music in the iTunes library. No big deal, just didn't know. I too would look into a new battery, any Apple store can replace it.

I'm sure if you lost any of it, Ken would be happy to let you borrow his collection

Good point.

My only focus was in a possible solution if all else failed, but you are certainly correct.
