And to be fair, I don't have first-hand experience with Mr. Jeter, so I don't feel comfortable claiming he's a bad person. My point was honestly just that I don't think any of us have enough info about the two to make declarative statements about character. The stories I heard are no more conclusive than the the image he's able to craft through his interactions with the media. If given the choice, I'd much rather root for someone who at least puts forth the effort to present himself well, and to be an ambassador for his team and the game. I just draw the line at declaring that player necessarily a good person -- especially at the expense of another player.
I agree there is no argument that Jeter seems to approach the game the right way and by most counts seems to be an excellent teammate and player. As fans, I'm not sure we could ask for more than that.
