I do agree - to a degree - that playing with the best - makes you better...but , on the other hand , baseball is such an "Individual" sport , that if you play AGAINST the best..you will get better - probably even moreso - than just playing WITH the best. Austin Neary - is a good example of this - he has played with kids his age both locally and Nationally the last 3-4 seasons and he will be (or is) one of the top juniors this coming season.

OK, thanks for the clarification - again not trying to be critical just looking for explanations as mentioned in my last message. Of course the best case is PLAYING with kids that are as good if not better than you and then playing AGAINST competition that is a little above you. There is obviously a fine balance here but this seems to be the best preparation when one comes into a HS program as a FR or SOPH and wants to make the team. I know it is very difficult for FR and SOPH to make varsity rosters for top MIAA schools (CHC, Loyola, St. Joe).

So what is the UA Heat doing in 2010 and where is Ryan playing? I heard the team blew-up at the end of the 2009 season.

Rumor has it that the team is regrouping with a core group of six previous players including the three leftys that were previously discussed in this thread. I do not know the other players names but I heard it is one from Spalding one from McDonogh and the last one from Walkersville. They are hand picking the rest of the roster from the top area 16-17 year olds in the area. If it is true with some of the names that I have heard this team will be stacked!

Yes , I know 2 of those lefties are IN. The 3rd most likely In but he has since moved to WVA and may possibly be pitching for the Richmond Braves but will , Im sure log innigns for this team. The 3 position players are the catcher from McDonough , IF - Spalding and 2b from Walkersville. As far as gathering the best players from 16-17 age..we shall see , seems as though they havenot snagged some of the players origianlly mentioned and were inviting some others further down their list. Not so sure they will be - so called -"Stacked". They're is another local team out of the Baltimore county area that is putting together a very sound club - they are pretty much complete except for one more pitcher.

I wouldnt call it blowing up.Im thinking its just different people wanting different things for their kid(s). At this age and level - not too many teams stay together for multiple seasons. I havent heard any more from the possibilty of a Heat team , but I do know that some of the players they had mentioned a short time ago arenot - in fact - playing on that team.On the other side , The BaltimoreChop is having a 16U team - I believe they are just looking for a pitcher or 2 to complete roster. they are going to play 18U locals and in age 16's @ WWBA & possibly BCS Perfect game 16's. It will be interesting.
