What about the Labyrinth songs?

Should I just ignore his 80's music all together?

I could never really get into Bowie. I really only like less than a handfull of his tunes. I'm not saying that the man doesn't have talent, he's just not my cup of tea.

Oddly enough, even though I'm not crazy about Bowie, the one set of his music that I do like a lot is his 2 albums with his band Tin Machine. I know I am in a huge minority here ... it seems that only die-hard Bowie fans like the TM stuff ... I've never heard too many people claim that they like that material too much.

Faith No More is back together now, aren't they?

BTW...the new KISS album is pretty good...as far as KISS albums go. OK, OK...I have to admit - I have a sentimental attachment to that band because I liked them when I was a kid back in the 70s. If I had to listen to them without that personal background, I'd probably think their new album was crap. At any rate, it beats the hell out of Psycho Circus, which was just plain embarrassing...

Did anyone see the Bowie parody on Flight of the Concords? Freakin' hillarious!

Or his appearance on Extras (as himself)... where he was singing about Ricky's character? Oh so funny!

"Little fat man who sold his soul,
Little fat man who sold his dream...

Pathetic little fat man,
No one's bloody laughing,
The clown that no one laugh's at,
They all just wish he'd die.

He's so depressed at being hated,
Fatso takes his own life,
He blows his stupid brains out,
But the twat would probably miss.

He sold his soul for a shot at fame,
Catchphrase and wig and the jokes are lame,
He's got no style, he's got no grace,
He's banal and facile, he's a fat waste of space

See his pug-nosed face...Pug, pug, pug, pug,
See his pug-nosed face...Pug, pug, pug, pug,
See his pug-nosed face...Pug, pug, pug, pug,
The little fat man with the pug-nosed face, Pug, pug, pug, pug,
Little fat man, pug-nosed face, Pug, pug, pug, pug,
He's a little fat pug-nosed face, Pug, pug, pug, pug. "

They've been touring Europe this year ... I don't think they ever played any US shows to my knowledge.

They are back together but just for a tour, not another album. I'm sure whatever they could come up with would be much better than all the other crap out know. As far as Bowie goes his best stuff was with Mick Ronson and the Spiders from Mars, although I do like the song's Ashes to Ashes, Scary Monsters, Fashion (guitar parts more than anything), China Girl and Modern Love from the eighties. What can I say? Good 80's pop songs that remind me of the times I was a kid before the weight of the world.

Some of the Mike Patton side-project stuff is worth listening to.
Aside from the albums he did with Mr. Bungle, his band Fantomas is really experimental and weird (check out their cover of the Godfather theme). Still worth hearing, though. Tomahawk wasn't bad, either.

I saw Fantomas a ways back and Tomahawk three time's years ago. Once I think they opened up for Tool in 02, pretty good shows! My favorite Patton show of all time was Faith No More in '95 (King for a Day Tour). Me and my friend kept getting up on stage and diving off! Once Patton handed me the mike, although I didn't know the lyrics (at the time), of the song (Get Out) they opened with cause the album had just come out so I just gave it back to him and dove off stage! Ahh the salad day's....

That was really good. I miss that show!

Have any of you not seen the 1984 Floor Show he did on the Midnight Special?

When I first saw him in the 70's I was a Temptations man...he scared the hell out of me cause I had never seen anyone do what he was doing.

Bowie is a genius !

Yeah I was going to mention that, but thought I was getting a little winded. That book I mentioned earlier has a pic of him on that tour doing his keyboard thing with Iggy front stage screaming away. Funny he was a big star but took time of to help his friend produce three albums and play keyboards in his touring band? What a guy! Also he did China Girl to help Iggy get some royalties due to the fact he wrote the song. Still haven't heard that Tim Machine project but look forward to checking it out?

Not to mention he wrote the song All the Young Dudes and gave it to Mott the Hopple because they were not having any commercial success.

Yeah and supposedly that song got them some short term success. I read he first offered them Suffragette City but they turned that down. I'm glad they kept that on the album, it wouldn't have been the same without it.

That was STAGED!!!! (To imitate youtube commenters)

Bowie looks like he needs to take a towel and mess up his hair.

Great singing though.
