Default Two Steelers voted NFL's dirtiest by players

Nothing shocking here, and even though Porter is in Miami now he was brought up in the Steeler style of football, cheap shots and dirty plays.

Nio bigger indictment then your peers voting you at the top of this list, so there is really nothing for any Steeler fans to defend these two with.

Ward, Porter, Haynesworth called NFL's dirtiest

Posted by Michael David Smith on November 3, 2009 2:23 PM ET

A Sports Illustrated poll of NFL players has found that Hines Ward is considered by his colleagues to be the dirtiest player in the league, with Albert Haynesworth and Joey Porter tied for second.

The question, "Who is the dirtiest player in the league?'' was asked of 296 players during training camp this summer, and Ward, the Steelers' wide receiver, got 11.6 percent of the vote, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Haynesworth, the Redskins defensive tackle who as a Tennessee Titan in 2006 received a five-game suspension for stepping on the helmetless head of Cowboys center Andre Gurode, got 6 percent of the vote. Porter, the Dolphins' linebacker, also got 6 percent.

Rounding out the Top 5 (or should it be Bottom 5?) are Bengals safety Roy Williams, who got 5.1 percent of the vote, and Titans center Kevin Mawae, with 4.6% percent.
Top 2 in the entire league!

Something to be proud of.

Spin away trolls.

11.6 percent and 5 and 6 percent? of a nearly 300 person sample, that isn't a very big amount of people. Ward had 33 people say he was the dirtiest.

53 players on each team X 32 teams in the league = 1,696 players

That means that 197 NFL players league wide considered Hines Ward the dirtiest player out of the other 1,696 players that could be chosen. If each player got one vote from one other player it would equate to every player having a .059% share of the vote. That is a pretty big number when you look at it that way.

Yeah, it's been pretty reasonable around here since some of the trash was taken out, I really don't think this thread (or some of the comments) is necessary (or going to help).

I also dont understand how Porter is a Steeler when he's been a Dolphins player since 2007.

Agreed - and most Steeler fans were happy to see the guy - and his act - go.

No Ravens made the list? If that's true, then we're just not trying hard enough.

Interestingly enough.... the only dirty play/hit come from a Raven in recent years that I can remember is the Ed Reed torque on Tenn RB Chris Johnson in the pile during last years Playoff game... and that's about it. You could argue that the Ray Lewis hit on OchoStinko a few weeks ago was dirty.... It was a hard hit leading with the shoulder and got called. To bad 85 doesn't strap up his helmet, so we could really see how bad it was (or wasn't).

Interesting thing on that: the whistle comes really late on the play cause Johnson is still moving. I wouldn't call it dirty.

Antwan Barnes on the Eagles punter in preseason was borderline. Legal cheap shot if you ask me.

Only 296 of the players were polled.

I guess I assumed the whistle blew.

Agreed... I'm not making excuses (it was a cheap shot). But it's hard for that to be associated with the "Ravens". He was a rookie (nor Ravns influence yet...) trying to make a statement.... Just a poor choice. I'm sure the Ravens coaches had something to say about in the film room.

Maybe you should take a reading comprehension course. 296 players polled. 33 players not 197, Baltimore education at its finest.

I had all the playoff games on tivo. I watched them periodically in the off-season. That play stands out cause a skirmish breaks out after the tackle.

I never re-watched the Pittsburgh game, though.

Porter learned his trade as a Raven. One of the dirtiest players that I can recall was Joe Green,he was always punching people after the play was over and he was also an eye poker. In todays game he would be fined and suspended.
