Doctors are commissioned as Captains. They make Major quickly. That Hasan had spent 9 years in the military and was only a Major says something about his performance reports, which have been reported to have problems.

Major is not particularly impressive in rank for a doctor. It's sort of like making E4 as enlisted.

O-3 is granted after graduation from Med School, O-4 after becoming board certified. I'm not sure about the O-1, O2 thing unless he received undergrad education somewhere.

More dithering by the Obama administration.
really do not understand what you wanted the authorities to do. In this climate of political correctness the lawsuits would have flown if they attempted to sanction this man for his words. I can already picture the NY Times and Washington Post running exposes on the bigoted military and how Muslims are oppressed.

Sadly the authorities were left impotent and there was not much they can do. It is easy to assign blame now but if they had acted as some are suggesting they would brought the whole establishment against them.

Innocent Americans will continue to be sacrificed at the alter of political correctness and radical liberal orthodoxy.

This guys statements should have raised a huge red flag in his chain of command. Army CIB and/or the FBI should have been involved.

I'm sorry but the guy was in the military. Some of his treasonous free speech rights go bye bye. The leftists don't seem to understand that.

This is going to sound F'ed up but I don't care. If there are other Arabic/Muslim members in the military who have similar sympathies they then need to be investigated too and drummed out if they truly feel this way.

Imagine a member of the military allowed to deploy on the field of battle in Afghanistan who at a crucial time in turns his weapon system around on allied forces. Not just small arms like a handgun or M-4/M-16.

What about a .50 cal, SAW, anti-tank weapon, Predator drone missile, HE round from an Abrams?
Agreed but the military was simply impotent to act. The Left has already condemn them as murderers and bigots. Could you imagine the uproar if they removed Muslims because they said kill the infidels?

No no no it will not do the MSM would make the Muslims to be marytrs for multiculturism. On the NY Times blog they linked a paper from 1990 where some pyscho babble goes on to explain how psychiatrists are traumatized by listening to soldiers.

This is the sorry state of affairs we have sunk to.

You are one of the most active posters regarding race and now you want to cry out against political correctness?

What if he was a black Muslim? Would you feel so inclined to drum the guy out of the military?

I nearly spit my beer out when I read this.

I think the Army knew a little bit more about this guy than President Obama did.

I mean it's not like there was a brief entitled, "Islamic Extremists Determined to Strike US" from a top adviser and surveillance files from the FBI detailing a bunch of Arabs going to school learning how to fly airplanes into buildings sitting on his desk next to a copy of "My Pet Goat" for 9 months.

I think the real question is why was this guy given a poor performance review and then promoted?

Also, this is far from the first time something like this has happened at Fort Hood.

Sounds to me like the Army needed to be a little more proactive in dealing with the psycho. You can bet there are going to be some changes.

Yup. I would. No place for it.

Islam is incompatible with free minded people. The world is littered with the damage.

Being against traditional white bigotry against blacks and being opposed to a stifling culture of political correctness is mutually exclusive. Of course knowing your ideology you may not be able to grasp.

No, the victims are the ones he shot.

Foreign media is handling this more intelligently and nonpartisan than ours is. Amazing but unsurprising.

Fort Hood shooting: Nidal Malik Hasan 'said Muslims should rise up'
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who allegedly killed 11 people before being shot and wounded by police at Fort Hood, had said Muslims should "rise up" and attack Americans in retaliation for the US war in Iraq, a former army colleague said.

Yes.

Not because he was black. Not because he was a Muslim. I would want him drummed out for making jihadist, Anti-American, enemy sympathizer statements. Political correctness is a sham when it comes to the military. It has no place.

In light of nutter's service record, the Army has some explaining to do.

Being disgruntled is one thing but constantly expressing a need to kill your fellow citizens is 'out there'. The latter is a huge bell ringer.

Not even close. This is closer to being the Virginia Tech shooting than 9/11. The reason some people, republicans, are trying to tie this to 9/11 is because the guy is Muslim. This just goes to show the dangers of demonizing an entire group of people because of the actions of a few. Because one day they may decide to live up to your expectations of them.

I heard he wrote Obama directly (in arabic) and told him he was going to do this. Apparently Obama said go ahead, have a good time and Allah U akbar.

You righty's are just sad. Really. WE ALL KNEW YOU WOULD BLAME OBAMA FOR THIS. Don't forget there was a shooting yesterday at an office, so Obama is to blame for that one as well?

Maybe Obama should start hitting the cash cow the way Bush & Cheney did. Start going to Congress and making pleas for national security funding. I need 300 billion for stem cell research or Eggheads are going to kill us all. <- That's the most important part. I need 250 billion for Global Warming or Eggheads are going to kill us all. Ladies and gentlemen terrorists don't build Nuclear Weapons. In fact most terrorist can't even say nuclear properly more or less build a nuclear weapon. No! It's not terrorist that build nuclear weapons. It's Eggheads that build them. Do we want our next warning on global warming to come in the form of a Mushroom Cloud? That's why I need 600 billion to explore clean alternative energy sources.
