XM or Sirius radio?

I'm thinking of signing up for one or the other. Any advice, tips, opinions? I hate to pay for radio, but they seem to offer a lot of good shows. I'm thinking I might even get rid of cable TV. Also, didn't XM and Sirius merge? Are they still competing for business? I looked on the Internet and it seems they have seperate subscription plans, etc.

Thanks for any advice.

I've had XM for 5 years. At only $10 per month, it's worth to me. I think you can get XM with the best of Sirius, and vice versa.

You can get Sirius or XM and they offer a "best of" package that includes the top channels from the other...you just have to pay an extra $4-5 a mos.

So essentially it's up to you. Both seem to have almost the exact same music stations- classic rock, 70s 80-s 90s etc etc...But it's the talk and sports that I think is different. Sirius has Mad Dog, Howard, NFL and Nascar (?) standard.

Not so sure exactly what XM offers but I think it's Baseball, golf and more thorough NCAA coverage

I chose Sirius b/c it has has NFL, Grateful Dead and the NFL talk network...But I think all of those cross over to Sirius in the best of package...

If baseball's your game, try XM...I think XM also has better college sports and actually has individual college conference stations (3-4 channels dedicated to Acc, Big East etc.)

If you're in your car a decent amount, I think It's worth the investment to not have to listen to the local goobers

Thanks for "best of" info. I'll check that out.

Perhaps it would be worth it to get the "family pack". It looks like I could get 4 or 5 connetions (cars and house).

They're pretty much the exact same thing. Literally. They merged a few months back and they are just one company now. It's just that the stations are in different places and some of the talk radio stations are on one and not the other. If you're just going for the music, it doesn't matter which you pick, because the music will be exactly the same.

Rather than requiring all of their customers to buy new recievers, they just kept the same broadcasting for each company, but they meshed all of the channels together. So the Classic Rock station might be Ch. 17 on Sirius and Ch. 29 on XM, but the song will be the same one playing on both.

It's only a matter of time until, they'll make the customers change over to new satellite recievers. I think it's very much worth it. The playlists are much larger and if you're in the mood for something specific you can pretty much find it, with no commericals (on most stations).

If your getting rid of cable tv, you could replace it with Dish Network, it comes with Sirius, but its only the music stations.

Jack, I have XM in both my car and my home, and I wouldn't be without it. Whether your passion is politics, news and current events, music, sports, whatever, there is something for you on XM.

Fox News Radio broadcasts on XM, as does C-SPAN, CNN, and the BBC. There are conservative and liberal talk stations. Music runs the gamut from folk to jazz to classical. There are more sports channels than you can shake a stick at.

Get it. You won't be sorry.

XM has a Motown channel .Hits you can't get much of on Baltimore commercial radio.Also Interenet chanel www.oldies700.com
