I happened to watch oprah for a few minutes one day recently. I was sitting there thinking "why is this lady so famous and powerful?". I'm not seeing it myself.

Absolutely!! I love his method of management: brain storming. In fact, I just heard a journalist suggest that Obama isn't dictatorial enough with Congress. He should force Congress to work through Thanksgiving and Christmas and Fourth of July w/o break until they give the American people the health reform bill. So funny. I wonder if he cares to be elected again myself. He looks at all these representatives who are old enough to be his father, mostly white, and probably just hopes lots of us see the same thing. I, too, thought age was supposed to bring wisdom. In the meantime, I've learned a lot about running a cheap healthcare system because of all the brainstorming that's going on. It gets cheaper and easier all the time rationally. I wonder if younger folks can do better myself. In the meantime, I wonder how many death threats he has to live with. I think the classic statement right now is the minority leader saying the Preamble to the Constitution and it was the Declaration of Independence and he's making sure the Democrats don't pass the health bill I think I'd give up as President after that. I remember when Lieberman used the Declaration of Independence to prove that the Constitution had reference to "creator" in it. Now this? Too much. .

If it isn't about politics, then the government must stay out of it. Business, organized religion, and non-profits need to partner to ensure that the marginalized and other uninsured are provided affordable care.

Well anyone with even basic common sense knows that! Medical advice comes from many sources. I am not much on TV, but I found Dr. Oz's show to be entertaining. I just saw it for the first time yesterday. They were covering damaging hair routines. I doubt my primary care physician is going to advise me on the best hair color to use!

Kanye West's mother didn't like what her first doctor told her so she found a plastic surgeon who would agree to do what she wanted. She's dead. I will stick with my primary care doc and take Dr. Oz with a grain of salt as intended. Nothing replaces personal consultation with a qualified physician.

Can't stand Oprah, never could.

I would be careful with a Dr when their most important qualification is that they agree with the patient........

He's not a medical doctor, but he's has a doctorate in psychology. So only a real doctor is one who had a medical degree?

And Dr. Oz has said just that numerous times.

He's a heart surgeon and through the years that I've watched him on Oprah. He's not reaching for the scalpel to solve every medical problem. His advice is never off the wall and bizarre. I like that he'll answer some difficult or at least socially uncomfortable questions. Sadly there are quite a few people that are reluctant to go to the doctor for their symptoms and if he's a catalyst for getting someone to their doctor, I think it's a good thing.

a lot of people think DR means MD which of course it does not. I don't know (0r care) whether phil is a phd or not but if he is then he is a dr.
