Actually, you are the one who has the flawed logic.

Just because Stover was money for 10+ years doesn't mean he will be money after the age of 40.

By your logic Cal Ripken should still be an All Star level SS at 49 because he did it for 10+ years. Yet he was a .239 hitter at 40 when he retired.

When players get older, their ability decreases. It's a fact.

The smart teams are the ones who let go a year too early, as opposed to the ones who hold on a year too late.

Stover may or may not have made that kick in Minny. But the Ravens made their decision to go with a younger kicker with a bigger leg so they could save a roster spot and I am standing by it.

no, your arguement is flawed.......

like I said, less then 10 months earlier, Matt hit a 43 yarder in horrible outdoor conditions (I was there) in Nashvile with time running out to send us to the AFC championship game......

if you want to argue we couldn't afford to kick 2 kickers, etc. then you might have a valid arguement but you can't say the 40 yarder was a lot different than the 43 yarder Houska missed.......

I know it's the Colts but congrats Matt for keeping your team in the game. Smokey Stover still getting it done.
I'm glad that Stover is holding the fort for us until Vinatieri gets back.

No, the argument that Stover would have made the FG in Minnesota without a doubt, is the flawed argument.

Bringing up a kicker's past to prove a point that he would have made 1 kick is also flawed.

Even pointing to Stover making the FG in Tennessee as proof he would have made the kick in Minny is flawed.

Kickers miss FG's from 40+ all the time.

Would Stover have had a better chance to make that FG? Maybe...it can't be proven. I'd say their chances were probably even, all things considered.

BTW, Hauschka made all his FG's yesterday.

agree with all the above but your earlier statement is the one that I objected to.....

nothing "proves" someone will maketheir next kick .....

so while technically true, to say it in a way that implies his range is limited to 40 yards or he isn't clutch is misleading.....

Much different than the 40-yarder that Stover made in the middle of the game.

No doubt. Definite future ROH member, borderline HOF candidate, and one of the the single-greatest Ravens in our relatively short history.

my daughter and I will be cheering him......

he was / is her favorite player and she understands the whole Colts thing despite being just 16 so she is really torn......

I'm glad I didn't see the game because I would have been pretty torn myself. I'm also glad that I won't be at the game when Indy comes to town because I just don't think I can boo Stover, even in the horseshoe.

I will boo and root against anyone playing for Indy when they come here, including Stover. It's not personal, it's just business. Again it would be different if he had only played for Baltimore but he was once a Brown so the warm and fuzzy feeling so many of you have for him is not here with me.

I will certainly root against Stover to win because I don't want his team to win. I really don't want his team to win.

But it's hard to feel bile rising up in my soul for the Ravens' all-time leading scorer, especially since he's largely responsible for the Lombardi coming back to Baltimore before ever going to Indy.

I don't hate the guy. I just don't get upset that he is gone. I had no problem with the move at the time and I still don't.

I really like Stover and wish he'd been able to stay. I didn't like the move, but I understand the need to get a fresher leg in there for the future.

I understand why they made the move. I just don't get caught up in all of these woulda, coulda, shoulda that so many fans want to do. He is gone, goodbye, have a good life. Let him kick Indy to a Super Bowl, I don't care. Though he will be cut if Vinatieri can come back.

Me neither. I wish he was here, but he's not, and chances are, he won't be. When Vinatieri comes back, he'll be gone, too.

To me, it's the same thing with Jamal. I boo the Cleveland players, but just not him. I don't root for him as the opposition. I just don't boo him.

Actually, let me clarify. This all pertains to introductions, not in-game time.
