Default The "Today Is A New Day" Game Thread: Twins vs. O's 8/23

The Orioles will try to pick up the pieces following an embarrassing doubleheader sweep when they open a four-game series Thursday night against the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins (63-63) were struggling offensively before erupting for a seven-run first inning fueled by Michael Cuddyer's grand slam on Wednesday, avoiding a three-game sweep with an 8-4 victory over Seattle.

Boof Bonser (5-10, 4.93 ERA) hopes to post his first win in more than two months. He is 0-8 with a 5.65 ERA in 12 starts since his last victory against Washington on June 10. The right-hander allowed five runs and seven hits over 4 2-3 innings Saturday in a 5-0 home loss to Texas.

Bonser's winless streak is the longest for a Twins pitcher since Al Williams went 12 starts without a victory from April 20-June 28, 1982.

Steve Trachsel (6-7, 4.81) looks to win consecutive starts for the first time in almost three months. The veteran right-hander ended a nine-start winless streak with a 5-3 victory Saturday at Toronto. He gave up three runs in the first two innings, but held the Blue Jays scoreless for the next 4 2-3 innings.

Trachsel, who won three straight starts from May 18-28, is 3-0 with a 4.20 ERA in 10 home starts this season, last winning at Baltimore on June 8.

He is 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA in five career starts against the Twins, but hasn't faced them since June 9, 2004 with the New York Mets.

LET'S GO O'S!!!

Amber saying that at 5:15 Trembley held a team meeting, emphasizing looking forward to this series with the Twins and maintaining pride over their generally improved play despite the crazy game. The players are "over it" and see yesterday as an anomaly and are ready to get back to work.

Meanwhile, Patterson just made an outstanding diving catch!

I didn't realize it, but this series features the #1 (O's) and #2 (Twins) defenses in the AL.

O's go 3 up 3 down in the bottom of the first.

Trachsel gets the next three batters! Twins strand Hunter at 2nd base.

Aubrey with a homer! 10 RBIs in his last 8 games, 5 homers in his last 18 games. Where was all this before the season started melting away?

Go O's. It's going to take a lot more than a 27 run loss to get me off this bandwagon.

I wore my Tejada jersey with pride today.

Does anyone else notice that he completely picks up his back foot when he swings

I noticed it and wrote about it a couple nights ago, but I have to imagine that is not what a hitting coach wants you to do...

But then again, he's finally on his "2nd half" roll, so why bother.

I think 10 years of losing is significantly worse then losing by 27. So if you are still an Oriole fan coming into the season, looks like you'll be one for life. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, however.

I know exactly what you mean.

My Dad took me to Game 2 of the 1997 ALCS against the Indians. I was 14. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think it would be more than a decade later when the Orioles finally make it back. I thought we were going right back in 1998.

Congrats to Kevin Millar.

He has really earned my respect as one of my favorite players on the team.
