Question Add 1 player to the current O's = Ace or 4 Hitter?

If you could add just one player to the O's roster tomorrow and they would stay healthy all year...would you add a Number 1 Starting Pitcher like Bedard or a Legit Number 4 hitter like Texiera?

Ace

or

Number 4 hitter

Hard to say... I'm leaning toward an ace. We already seem to be scoring a good number of runs. Our bullpen's doing great, but if we had a guy who could go deep into games allowing only a few runs, it would help keep the pen rested for other games. I live in dread of Trachsel and Cabrera crashing and bringing down the BP with them.

The classic 4 hitter, odds are he'll stay healthy, pitchers are too brittle.

I have to go the other way and choose a Legit Number 4 hitter like Texiera.

I still think we are going to struggle to score runs (unless Huff and Scott somehow keep playing like this) but if we could have someone protect Nick and could mash 40 homers and win games just by putting us on his back....that is who I would choose.

Last year we had an Ace in Bedard and it didn't help us win 80+ games.

Pitcher...this staff has less of a chance at holding up over 162 games than this offense does at scoring a decent amount of runs over 162 games.

I would add a near-ML-ready shortstop who projects to be an all star and will kick ass in 2010, when the O's actually have a chance.

I can't believe I'm saying it since an Ace is a necessity...

But I look at our lineup with Kevin Millar batting 3rd, and can't help but think that we need some hitters.

Maybe we'll have Weiters at 4 in a few years, but right now, today, I'd rather have the slugger. (by a hair.)

Pitching always wins. I'd pick an Ace over a #4 anyday.

But a pitcher can only help you 30-35 times a year.

"Hypothetical Harv". You gotta admit that's a good one, Harv! I would add the "ace".

I'd add the #4 hitter to this lineup. Otherwise we won't score enough runs in the AL East. We had Bedard last year and didn't have a true cleanup hitter and we struggled to score runs all year. With Millar in the heart of our lineup our situation begs for a true #4 hitter.

I'll take the ACE. Hopefully, the O's will continue to be good at manufacturing runs throughout the year and the defense stays solid (only 1 error...in the first game).

Great question. Pitching wins championships. I'll take the Ace.

#4 hitter. I would rather throw money at someone who plays every day than someone who plays every five.
